smart Owners in Vegas? Meet Up in December?

For those that don't know me, I'm Stephen the creator of the "forfiveone" and the 451 smart fortwo Community. I am just dropping a note to see if there are any smart owners/enthusiasts in Las Vegas that would be interested in meeting up in December. These wheels are the same size as the wheels sold in Canada and the United States, so the factory tires sold in Canada and United States will fit on these wheels. Also the tire pressure sensors will fit on these wheels.

These wheels also have a smart center cap, which unique as the wheels sold in Canada and the US have a C> center cap, while you can use either center caps this smart version is a nice addition.

These wheels where mounted and used briefly in Europe and the photos attached show the use of the wheels and the look of the wheels on the smart.

Reason for sale is I ordered a couple sets of wheels and tires from Europe and no longer want to keep extra wheels and tires around. If you need more photos of the wheels let me know but the attached photos give you the best idea of what they look like on the smart.

These wheels and tires where used to ship the smart from Europe but before delivery were removed to install the special European wheels and tires. These wheels and tires are in perfect condition as they where never used other then in transport of the vehicle.

This week I was out in New York City to do some things with MTV TRL and part of that was getting on camera for a brief moment of fame, which I shared with smart USA in terms of wearing the smart USA shirt and giving a shout out to everyone where in the 451 smart community.

While I don't expect a mad rush to buy the smart USA shirts or increase of members into the community I just wanted to share my often crazy adventure of a life with my love for the smart.

451 smart Scangauge II

Many people in the old 450 smart used the scangauge to measure fuel economy, but for me its a performance tool as I use it to watch RPMS (I don't have the pods installed) and watch the engine temperature.

The scangauge is a really great tool/toy and for less then $200 it does an amazing job. The official scan gauge website is: http://www.scangauge.com

As for mounting the unit, some have mounted it to the left of the steering wheel while others have mounted it above/below the stereo. In my car I've mounted it to the far left corner of the dash, this allows me to look at it and still keep an eye on the road.

The unit gives you 4 read outs, these are the readouts I use mostly:

RPMS (always on for me, as don't have the pods and like to know the RPMs)
Engine Temperature (this alone is worth buying the unit as the smart doesn't have anything other then a its too late warning light for engine temperature)

MPH (when in the USA comes in handy, also does KM)
Horsepower (used for testing products/changes to the car)
Air Temperature (just to reference the air temp with the engine temp)
Air Flow Senor (gives a good idea if you are getting more/enough air to the engine)
Engine Load (lets you see if you are using 100% of the engine's power)

smart Driver Training for the Cannonball Run/2008 One Lap of America

Here is video of me today, doing my 2008 One Lap of America qualifying training/laps at the BeaveRun raceway.

I am driving a Mazda Miata as the 451 smart fortwo project car forfiveone is still in Canada being worked on, but I was able to drive the Miata at speeds around corners at over 100mph, beating a Ferrari Testarossa and in this video easily catching and passing a Porsche 911 Carrera.

As the song says "its not what you got, its how you use it".

You are invited to get a behind the scenes look at the Cannonball run, while not a specific smart event, it’s will have the 2008 smart fortwo project car named forfiveone and there will be smart owners and enthusiast in the crowd to see what the smart can do on the track.

One of the great things about coming out to the event is that you will not only get the chance to see the forfiveone project car but you will get to see nearly 100 other exotic race cars and get up close with them and the tracks as with this invite you are able to get in the pits and staging areas, basically you can get everywhere except on the actual track.

The smart will be running in the last group of the day so if you arrive late you will still get the chance to see the smart run. There should a few smart owners out to enjoy this notoriously famous event at each track so introduce yourself to the other at the track.

First Maintenance from Service booklet

Since the Cannonball http://www.451s.com/oloa will mean 12,000km (7,500 miles) added onto the smart in 10 days we called up the smart center in Bloomfield Hills, MI about getting the first service done before the event and seems very easy.

They say the cost will be $160 for this first service as per the service booklet guidelines and will take 1.5 hours, so we are planned in at noon, earlier if we make good time/don't sleep on route to MI.

We'll be at the smart center Bloomfield May 1st around noon, stop by if you would like to get a look at the project car, otherwise you're more then welcome to come to any of the track events.

The April 2008 issue of duPontREGISTRY is now online and thanks to the wonderful team at duPont REGSITRY they put a promotion for the 2008 smart fortwo in the issue on the first page of the exotics section, with the quote:

"Own one of the most affordable exotics!"
