Thanks very much. That makes sense. Great explanation. I went to a dealer today and asked how the mirror comes off and he didn't know. He thought you had to heat the windshield somehow and the glue would unstick. Good grief. At that moment I knew I was going to come home and email you. :-) I just didn't want to be messing around and breaking something if somebody's already been there. By the way, I saw the picture of your prototype mirror and really liked it. Be well.

It comes off the glued foot attached to the glass, not at the mirror ball but the end closest to the glass.
Think of the neck of the mirror as if it were a hoof... OK... now that hoof is covering a smaller simi-rectangular horse shoe that is attached firmly to the glass(foot)....If you grab the neck of the mirror close to the glass (windshield) and firmly but not harshly.. push up towards the headliner.. it will come off. It will scare the crap out of you the first couple of times as you do it!…

It will scare the crap out of you the first couple of times as you do it! The neck has little room after it is disengaged before you hit the head liner and thus you feel like you hit every thing as you take it off. the best thing is to look at it from underneath and see its not glued or bolted.. its meant to come off in an impact and harm nothing... I'd show you with mine but my new prototype mirror is on.... shit! i just went to that ger…tag:www.451s.com,2008-07-21:1912846:Comment:361162008-07-21T21:38:30.375Zmr bad example
shit! i just went to that german parts site, they want $75 for a K&N air filter!

maybe you could go with the 50-60's sports car mount, rig a mirror on a stalk on the dash. some british cars actually had a bar mounted next to the wind shield and you could slide the mirror up or down to your taste.

when growing up, i only wanted to be tall enough to see what's on top of the fridge, i'm 5'8" and i can see what's on top of the fridge (buying shoes is a pain, i'm size 6-1/2) i can ride high in…

according to smartster, just slide it down along the windshield, he removed his. supposedly it's a slide off/on mount. i haven't tried it myself. i like watching people pick boogers out of their noses behind me as i kill their cell phone connection with my jammer! (i use the mirror to hide my I-PASS transponder from my view, something's always gonna be there)
LOL

Hi SATO, I've been thinking more about the rear view mirror thing and wanted to see what it was like with no mirror there. How does it come off? Does it just pull off the "ball", and if so, will it go back on?
I love what you did. Thanks. Jack
