I carry a plug repair kit. I have found that every flat I've ever had in the past 20 years has been either a screw or nail in the tire. It's usually a good idea to carry a flat head and phillips screw driver with a pair of pliars. Pull out the nail or screw and use the tire pump that comes with the car and fix the flat permanently right there on the side of the road or where ever you broke down. If you get a hole in the sidewall, then having a jack won't help you much because there's no spare tire to put on and you'll still need to tow the vehicle. The jack is very nice to have when you rotate your own tires. I try to avoid going to the dealer as much as possible and maintain my own vehicles.
