Well I got back from my dealer and I have to say I agree with Stacey. I am truly nervous about my next episode. Treatment seems to differ depending on which dealer you go to. My car does however appear to be fixed at least temporarily. Thank God I document everything!

I'm down in florida right now tony and I can def say that service regardless is about 1000 times better than further up north....i think it all has to do with the people there are to hire....up by my house i've heard them talking about how much they hate their jobs and how it's just about the money (which apparently isn't that good for my smart dealer).........they had no idea that i was in their waiting for my car to be serviced early one morning.,,,,,,anyway moral of my story, i think it just depends on who can/does give you service and how much they truly care.

Maryann, I have to say that I've always had prompt reliable service when I have had my smart in to the orlandosmartcenter for work. So far, I have not had any major issue with my engine/tranny or ac. I too have the extended warranty, just in case. After all it is a mechanical device with a zillion computer controls attached to it.

I always try to schedule my service visits. I make sure that the car is serviced on schedule. Maintenance can make a huge difference. If you are not getting the service you think you should be, then contact smartUSA. if you think they are putting your safety at risk, there are other agencies that can help as well.

Hope you and smart are able to get your car fixed and in good working order soon.

Michelle, help me out here. Your choice of terminology is really vague and difficult to understand clearly. Excel? This means to stand out, to outclass. You probably meant accelerate. You should describe clearly the conditions you are under when this problem seems to occur. Gets stuck in 'zero gear'?Do you mean neutral or park? Yeah that can be a problem. I've read hear and on other web blogs and forums. If you don't get a response from your dealer repair shop, contact smartUSA. Wingy lights? What on earth does that mean? I wish you all the best in finding a cure to what ills your car and hope you are better able to describe its problems so people can share similar repairs they had to have done.

EWS - - car fires no matter what the manufacturer is are very dangerous. I hope that your insurance company can return answers to you. You should report the fire to the NHTSA http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm It is a step in the right direction.

It's not just volume of smarts in Europe..

The fault lies with smart USA and the special transmission shift and programming for North America.
France, UK, Australia... in fact most the world, have the original transmission shift design where Auto is an extra cost option... we don't have the US shifter or program problems. I have the Auto option and rarely use it 'cos it is slow, clunky and unpredictable.

Poor service comes from the top down in the US/Canada... they created the problem and don't want to admit to it with a general recall?

hope all goes well tonight Stacey! They apparently are going to hook my car up to some computer device and reprogram the transmission.....think that's what they told my husband. Hopefully my problem is being resolved:) You know when I was in Paris they have these cars all over the place, I'm betting they don't have the same issues over there due to volume.
