Lots of different comments in here, many seem to be frustration with the service indicator light. I have had my smart since Oct '08 and it has run like a dream. (By the way, my only frustration with smart has been the service center where I bought it, Tysons Corner smart Center in Northern VA, where they quoted me a cost of $700 for the annual/10K service, I moved to Atlanta prior to the service being due and the service in Buckhead smart Center, Atl, GA cost me only $196 total). Back to the subject, many posts have been about the timing of the service light. I read in the owners manual that he service light will come on a month prior to service being due. (I assume that that gives you time to get the service scheduled with your service center) which is exactly what mine did. I did get he tire pressure light a few times, too, but I really did have a low tire, after inflating it to the proper pressure, the light went out. Perhaps, I just got lucky and found a good service senter where they know what they are doing...

thanks so much for the perfect info on the reset of the MIL (Maintenance Indicator Light)!

1-turn the key to the on position and press the button on left side of spedometer twice, holding it in on the second tap.(tap quickly, sort of like your double clicking a mouse. the service indicator should be blinking even when you turn the key off)

2-turn key off while still holding the button down, release button afterwards-this was important

3-without wasting any time press and hold the same button (on left) and then quickly turn the key to the on position again. wait ten seconds and the indicator should stop flashing. the mileage indicator will say 10,000 which indicates when your next oil change is due(if that is the service that was needed)

that worked perfectly after I fought it with instructions from two other sites. they were wrong & didn't include the critical step. you're a genius, Brian Chism.

A good idea is to take a Sharpy or a marker and put the date or some kind of a mark on your oil filter and air filter some time after your first service, because one time i went to the stealership to get a 20k service in one of my smarts and they dident change the oil filter or the air filter on the car, I checked and noticed that i still had the date on my oil filter and air filter .The air filter was dirty and it looks like all they did was blow it out. The oil looked fresh but it had the old filter witch was contaminated. So i went up to the manager of the Mercedes dealership and demanded my money back or else. So to make a long story short he refunded my $160 and put on a new air filter and oil filter on the car and changed the oil again.

I do all my own serviceing know. I dont trust any one to touch my cars. plus its way cheeper and i know that my quality of work is better than what i can get at the dealership.

$700 is absurd. They are trying to milk you. I'd contact corporate and tell them. That is absolutely absurd. It is a louzy oil change.

These are the types of things that people should be sued for. It is crazed to take a car in and not even have the work performed and they still pass you a heft bill. I know nothing about cars. I've got to find someone in Tampa to work on this 2009 that I have. Actually, I wish I could sell it and be done with the whole process.

Now I'm blushing! If I must confess, I was driving on the sidewalks around my house (exploring new parking alternatives), and I just touched the stucco with my front corner. It's a silver model, and that paint is laid over a black fender - very ugly…

I think that we are all surprised that no codes came up, but if you live in an area that has 50+ percent humidities, or are using gas from a low volume distributor, there is a genuine chance of fuel contamination. It's the hobgoblin of the aviation…
