i drive on the tollways in illinois now and then, and at a couple of toll booths for I-Pass they recommend a speed of 15MPH and have radar equipped displays for the lanes to tell you the speed you are going. these devices go blank as i approach them. seeing the smart is basically a space frame of steel with all kinds of weird angles and no real surface area to mention. the largest metallic surface is the radiator and license plate.

so for most radar purposes, i think the smart is a "stealth car". laser, everything is optical... if you get caught for speeding in a smart with radar, go to court and fight it. smarts are not "radar visible".

"Officer, what do you mean 85~? This car is just too small to do 85~! You must have gotten the __________ (car, truck, motorcycle - insert your best bet) _____________ (behind, beside, in front - insert your best guess) instead of my little car. Really, sir."

LOL!

i did do 85mph going to the feb smart meet, you wouldn't believe the looks i got from everyone i passed! you get smiles and thumbs when you're going 55 in the right lane, things are a bit different when weaving between the 2 left lanes at 85. a lot of people still think the smart is electric. i tailed a camaro that was competing in the cannonball run last year from chicago to elkhart lake wisconsin, the driver couldn't believe i could keep up with him for over 100 miles, he also assumed the smart was electric.

i think it's funny, chevy has been bragging that it will come out with the"VOLT", a car that can go 40 miles on electricity, it'll cost over $40K, now saturn, pontiac and hummers are HISTORY, i seriously doubt chevy will be around in 10 years.

1. I got clocked @ 85 while the only car on the road. He gave me a ticket for 75, 'cause (he said) he'd have to cuff me @ more than 25 mph over the limit.

2. A local 35 mph street near my house often has the Houston PD 'timing trailer' parked where it shows your current speed via radar. It has never had any problem finding my speed, even when there are no other cars around. It even catches the speed of my Vespa S150 scooter when I pass.

Maybe the Illinois toll system uses some real weak radar. Don't depend on law enforcement being unable to find your car on their speed traps...I have good reason to believe that they CAN.

My 2009 Brabus came with the 61AH battery. I think the 42AH battery is a little small, even for a car with less options.

Richard: In response to your post I will add this rebuttal: 1. Cruise Control should come with a car at this price. Others do. 2. Mine would shake the hotdogs right out of you at 30psi. I can only imagine what yours would be like at 45psi.. 3....

Bonnie, The Smart is a niche vehicle. It is attractive to people like me, who like to play with odd stuff. While there is no question that the Smart is odd, it is also quite functional for the things I bought mine for. The Smart is not alone in be...
