As cars get more complex, and the systems / knowledge to repair them more expensive, fewer independent repair shops seem to have the resources to diagnose and fix problems. And car companies are beginning to keep repair info private (there is a bill stalled in Congress that would compel carmakers to share repair info). smart has shown itself to be no exception to this...note how little actual technical data is available in the owners' manual. Many of them say this is to protect their intellectual property (it seems you can't adjust a mirror without having to make a corresponding adjustment in some onboard software), but the impact on us is to lessen available repair choices and drive up repair prices. So, I'm thinking that it would be a good idea to use this site to list any independent repair shops that seem to know something about repair and maintenance of smart fortwos. If you have a story about your good / bad experience with one or more of them, that would be immensely helpful...would reward shops who want to serve this market...and maybe help keep maintenance prices down. Nominations, anyone?
