Dealer backing out?

I had arranged to pick up my Pure from the dealer tomorrow morning, had been talking to them about it all week, and then got a call from them at the 11th hour this afternoon saying that there is something wrong with the car and it's not ready. They noticed that it "wasn't running right" when it came back from the tint shop and they'll have to reschedule after their mechanics look it over. So now I'm paranoid that they are hoping to make me skittish about the deal so I will back out and make it an orphan. I'm probably letting my imagination get the best of me, but that what social networks are for, right? Has anyone else had a similar experience? Reserved 3/29/07

I have not heard them doing this, and I backed out of mine to get an orphan with diferent specs... No price mark ups anywhere. You should know how much YOURS was going to be and they cant just raise the price on another just for being an orphan. On the contrary maybe they are being very cautious in sending out a lemon to US when that could kill sales for them. its in their best interest to have VERY happy smart owners out there. once you recieve your and drive around youll see... you become an unpaid Smart sales person at every light, Grocery store, even at the bank!

Be cautious but not paranoid...

Thanks for the input; you're probably right. I'm already a very enthusiastic salesperson without the car. My coworkers are sick of hearing about it! The dealer has been very cool in every other way, but I started thinking about it too much maybe.

i wouldn't worry, i've heard a few smarts aren't inspected and require extra work/parts before delivery, they want you to be happy. just hope it's something simple, you might have to wait a while for parts. good luck!

They wash and clean the car, check tires, oil and other things. Maybe they didn't have yours finish yet. We had to wait about three hours because they had not started on the car. Good luck, I am sure it is no big deal.

Thanks for the reassurances, guys. They're supposed to call me in the morning for a status report, so hopefully my next post will be to tell you it's home safe and sound.

So what are you going to call your smart? you have to have a name for it! I envy the name max Its taken already by a lovely Lady. Mine is Marty and have the L plate "5MARTY".

mine will be RONIN 42, just waiting for the prisoners to pound out the plates, that'll replace my snowbound profile pic! (i'm tired of looking at it myself!)

Just had to wait 1month 1week for ours! It kept throwing codes until I said "why don't you try a body control module, since that's where all the strange codes come from" 2 weeks later we finally got to purchase our $19000 smart. So far so good . Sure hope the 33mpg gets better.

My response would be: grateful the dealer wanted to deliver a car the buyer will be pleased with by taking care of any problems.
I think the last thing I want of my smartie (when I get it, duh) is to have it stop running on the way home.
Post pictures when you take delivery!
