You have to buy the whole door? It's not a conversion kit?

Great site by the way. One of the best US based smart parts suppliers I've seen yet.

It's a Conversion Kit.
Basically remove your factory hinges and replace them with our hinges and you are done. It's a very easy install since it's easy to remove th fender it should take a shop that has some experience installing Vertical doors about 2-3 hours the guys at VDI installed it in 2 hours. The kit will come with detail instructions.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe if it was 2 entire doors instead of some fancy hinges, MAYBE. Plus what did the guys at VDI charge you for two hours of labor? Looking at 1600 - 1800 in the end.

Lambo doors for the smart got flamed on another site so I was happy to see they didn't get flamed here. They are very interesting and I'd love to see one in person. I'd be worried about damage to the door or door frame but I know nothing about these doors really. If you get it, post pictures!

We will be making a video Showing how the Vertical Doors, Inc. kit works, on our Smart Car. We just have to wait for some of the manufacturers to bring back the parts they took for prototyping. Can't wait!!!

what happens in heavy winds? them doors are like sails, i've had my door practically ripped off the hinge (cracked the cover of something in the hinge area) and today at lunch, the wind slammed my door into my knee (was listening to the radio with my legs out the door)

it looks great, but i'd hate to have my door ripped off with a 30-40 mph wind.

We will be getting vertical doors on our smart, and I simply can't wait. My next smart? Lambo Orange and yes vertical doors just because I live in a frigging fantastic country that lets me express so :) I love the fact that I have the option of putting what is considered "signature" doors onto my car at a fraction of the cost of the frigging Lambo door itself. Some may consider it cheap, goofy, tacky, (insert your own word here). I think they rock, because they make me smile when I see them. I mean... who would've thunk it for a smart?! smart42parts did, yay-yay!

SmartGurl, love your perspective!!! Yes America is an AMAZING country. Living in Florida we dont see as may 'trick' rides as it seems are rolling on the streets fo Cali. In any case, I am sure you will share with the Smart family when you have your Vert doors installed. Stay Smart
