451 smart fortwo

smart Car

I really think this item should have been part of every smart as its such a simple install and such a perfect fit part that cost so little that really couldn't have made a difference to the total price of a smart. But oh well it was an extra and something that I recommend to other smart owners to get.

The blog post with photos and more details is here:

But the install instructions are below:

install and while its easy to install you might find it difficult to get the screws in as the steering wheel is somewhat in the way. After taking the time and installing the sunglasses holder I was really happy with the further growth of my smart.

Some people said they're sunglasses didn't fit but mine even though they are bigger then the normal sunglasses fit perfectly. If you have the big bling bling type sunglasses they might not fit but then again you probably wouldn't be driving a smart if you like bling bling style sunglasses.

That sunglass holder looks nice but at $55 -that's a bit expensive. Being long legged this might get in the way. If I ever get in an accident,God forbid, it is not wise to have that holder hitting you in the knee. If you must have a sunglass holder, look around for a softsided eyeglass holder that clips on the back of the sunvisor.
Actually the holder is in the area beside the steering wheel, so its nowhere close to your leg/knee, I should have take a better photo of it sorry about that. If you have a 451 this part goes right at the top part of the cubby hole/storage area to the left of the steering wheel.

As for the $55 yup its a little costly for something so simple and so much part of the car, but considering I paid over $300 for my sunglasses protection them for $55 is a bargain :)

In the smart I find the visor option not as useful due to them blocking the few of the road and in the case of an accedent those would be more lickly to hit you possible in the eye or wrose get betweem you and the airbag as it oes off.
You are right, if you paid a lot for your glasses than $55 isn't that much for protection. The sunvisor holder (I suggested) fits behind the visor and is out of sight. As to the safety issue, being behind the visor doesn't create a problem.
my fix for a sunglasses holder was the visor clip I bought for $2 at the local flea market. Works very well.

a bit of a waste of money when there are gaps at either side of the steering wheel - the one between the steering wheel and centre console is a perfect size for storing them!
I'm not sure if I'm going to add this yet or not. It's a bit pricey but if you're like me I put sunglasses in reach all over my world. I live in Texas and I gotta have my shades!
