Are there any after-market alternatives to the $600+ bike rack offered by smart? It looks like a conventional bicycle rack would have difficulty hooking onto the plastic that forms most of the rear panels...The smart rack screws into the two towing ports on the rear bumper -- and replicates all of the rear lights (tail, brake, turning, reverse) -- no doubt contributing to its high price tag... I'm wondering if some European aftermarket company offers a less expensive alternative??

I recall seeing a roof rack on a 451 in one of the tour of the USA videos online. It had a sign attached that said "follow me" or something like that. The car was yellow and black checker board, and the racks looked like they mounted onto the roof beams on either side of the transparent roof....
Although I'm not too sure if it's a good idea to drive around in something that's taller than it is long...haha.

I sell a trailer hitch for the Smart that has a class 1 reciever. You can insert a variety of bike, ski, and accessory racks in to this hitch reciever. And even a trailer!

Does it work with the new 451 model? Does it bolt or weld to the smart?

Our hitch for the 451 model will be ready to ship in about three weeks max. They are bolt on and very simple to install. The wiring kit comes with it as well. No welding.

The standard bike rack for the 451 is available in the UK for £260 and mounts low on the vehicle so looks much better than the earlier ones
Might be better searching a UK supplier and having it shipped out?

If you are asking about a CDI you are not in the USA... so most of us cannot give you a heads up on maintenance issues with your smart dealer. now as far as changing oil yourself its really quite easy if you have the right cup size for the oil plug.…
