Scangauge causing dead battery?

If I don't drive my smartcar cabriolet for 2 days the battery is dead. This has happen 3 times. I took it to the dealer and everything tested fine. They had me disconnect my scangauge and that solved the problem. Has anyone else had this trouble? I am going to investigate the power draw with and without the scangauge plugged in. The scangauge goes to sleep after I shut off my car. The light goes out and all seems good. I don't understand how a little gauge like this could drain my battery.

Permalink Reply by Dan Hall on January 4, 2009 at 3:54pm: I have had no problems with or caused by installation of the ScanGauge. I suspect something else is malfuncting or miswired. Good luck with the problem. A dead battery gives much cause for concern.

Permalink Reply by mr bad example on January 5, 2009 at 7:48pm: i've had my SG2 in a month, no problems. my shifter locked up a couple weeks ago, they replaced the whole mechanism, which required removing the seats, and when they put everything back together, the airbags weren't entirely hooked up. so i had the airbag light on for a week, took it back to the dealer and i was right, they had a multitude of airbag codes to clear from the ECU, took a little over an hour for the service. in 3 weeks i'll have had my smart for a year, no other problems outside of the shifter.; ▶ Reply to This

Does that make you feel safe letting them even check the air in your tires? Specialists... MY ARSE! could you even imagine the law suit you could have won against Merc, if you had been injured in an accident and that airbag not deploied....OMG!; ▶ Reply to This

Road assistance was dispatched and jumped. Cars then started. Sure is a hassle to get to the battery. I left my Cabrio for a week in June and it started without a problem. However, this time it was very cold and the battery sits almost on the ground. Could it be the cold? Perhaps the USA batteries are too weak or not enough cranking amps? The driver from roadside assistance said he has jumped several Smarts lately. BTW, what is a scangauge?; ▶ Reply to This
