SMART MADNESS TOY RUN! Ports O' Call Village Lunch in San Pedro!

Hello Fellow Smarties! Some of you may be hearing about this event for the first time, especially if you live in SoCal. With that said, we wanted to personally invite you to our 2nd home of SMART MADNESS to take in some holiday spirit with a charity Toy Run and a drive across the St. Thomas bridge to San Pedro. Please feel free to take a read below and if you can, please join us!

First, Boris and I want to humbly apologize for being so quiet with events this year, it's been a crazy one. With that, we didn't want to abandon Alexander on his efforts of organizing a run. We would like to organize a Toy Run, we will do the collection here at our shop. Please go to meetup.com/socalsmarties to RSVP. Here are the details:

  • Who benefits from the donated toys- CHPs for Kids!
KCRA 3 and the CHP distribute the toys to hospitalized and disadvantaged children through UC Davis Children's Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Shriner's Hospital, the Salvation Army, WEAVE, Head Start, Boys & Girls Club, Operation Rudolph, and other community service organizations.
  • What types of donations are needed?
Child-safe and educational toys brighten the holidays for babies and toddlers. Young children like board games, puzzles, crayons and coloring book sets, craft kits and building sets, Sports equipment (soccer, basketball and footballs) and hand-held video games work well for pre-teens. Teenagers (who are sometimes overlooked during toy drives) enjoy walkman radios and CD players, movie passes, phone calling cards, and gift certificates to clothing, variety, book and music stores.

SMART MADNESS will host coffee, tea, cider, donuts and you? Show your smartie spirit by bringing a new unwrapped toy for a little one this holiday. THANK YOU SOCAL SMARTIES YOU ROCK!

We had an amazing turn out and I wanted to make sure that everyone received our thanks. We had quite a few people attend who weren't on meetup, so with that, I wanted to make sure you too received our thanks. It was delivered via meetup mail, and now here to you.

Dear All,

We wanted to take a moment to thank EVERYONE involved in making this event successful. Though we weren't the official host I think it is important to realilze who truly benefited from this meetup. You see, when we realized that we were going to have guests coming over to our house and we couldn't go on the run, we realized we had to do more but not sure in what way. The Toy Run Came to mind and let us share with you, it was a success. At the last minute SoCal Smarties came through. We filled all 3 boxes and over 40 children this holiday are going to have a toy that is their own.

I need you to take a moment to vision something. Vision your toy getting handed to a Mother who is staying in a battered women's shelter with her children, or families/ children who are staying in organized motels with their families due to economic tough times or to a fire victim family, who has their home today but not in 2 weeks. These are the families that will benefit from yesterday's meetup; these families will have a smile and a happy child because of you and we thank you. Next year we are raising the bar, (Boris doesn't known this yet ;-) but it needs to be bigger and better for the children and of course for us too. So as I type this with a ball in my throat I humbly say thank you for everything, thank you for making a little one happy this season and thank you for simply for being you.

Our very best to you and yours this holiday season and always,
Rachel, Boris and TEAM MADNESS
