DDE Part 3, or is it 4, 5?

I don't know if anyone is following this blog, or even cares about their DDE, but I care about mine, and fortunately the smartUSA site says check back often as it may change! Well, I do check it often, and you will see why.

I know there are many out there reserving today and they are getting DDEs into 2009 up to 18 months out from their reservation. My reservation number is 1205, I reserved 4/20/07 and have been waiting just under a year. I know I have longer to wait because my dealer said so, and I watch the reservation number deliveries to California on this and other forums. While I feel for those with 2009 deliveries, I can also understand that their DDEs might not be accurate because they are so far out, and would rationally think they would reduce/become more accurate as the reservationsit's year passes.

But, lest they get too excited, here's my story (summarized; you can read more of the thoughts and feelings in earlier posts):

First (4/1): No Data Available, Check Back - okay it is a new system, I might not be in it yet.
Second(4/2): 4/26/08 -7/25/08
Third(4/3): 4/27 - 7/26/08 (I had made a reconfiguration request and advised I should expect a possible delay)
Fourth(4/4): - DDE 4/29/08 - 7/28/08
Fifth: (Dealer) April 7 got email that delivery would be 2-3 months which would make delivery between June 7 and July 7
Sixth(4/7): 3/3 - 6/1/08 (This actually 'stuck' for what seemed like a week and was when smartUSA called to tell me the car was "in transit" and the changes to the configuration could not be made - Okay, I understand that with the 3/3 - 6/1 date.)
Seventh(actual 'sticking time' of the previous was really only 4 days): - (today 4/5): - April 19 - July 18, 2008

Hey! What happened? Did the ship hit a tropical storm?! Did they decide that I would be too disappointed if the changes weren't made to the configuraton? Did they think I WOULDN'T NOTICE?! (Said with a wicked laugh outloud!)

Well, I did notice.

Am I upset? No not really, as I said before, it is all part of the process and I will take it in stride. I'm not unhappy, just confused. I'll take it in stride and without complaint - well not too many complaints. My wife gets the daily report and she is as confused as I am, but it adds to our anticipation.

We may sleep in the car the first night just so it can't leave or change color overnight.

some people never check and just and wait, others, more anxious, check every day or so. i was one of the first, i let it "ride" till the final delivery date (i had to sell a car to park my smart at "home") from march 2007 to dec 2007, i set the smart on my "back burner", i knew it was coming. i'd check the smart webpage for any new news now and then. i quit my job in march 2007 for getting married to a foriegn national, i wanted 2 months off to be with her, the job market dictated 5 months...she left me in 3 weeks... (my time would have been better spent with 2 months in las vegas... i can beat them in slots and the roullette tables) since she left me i've had a few proposals... i'm skirting the marriage issue now, once burned, twice shy...

the first smarties only had monthly e-mails, oh, it's coming someday... you get used to it, i waited 9 months before there was even a dealership announcement in my area. my smart arrived on jan 19, 2008, i called my dad to get a ride there on jan 21 (MLK day) so far, i've only seen one smart on the road in northern illinois in the last 3 months. i keep looking for more, but i'm alone in the woods. i feel like the "smart omega man" now. the only smart driver in a land of zombies...

Essentially, I did the same thing with the wait, but now I check often. I really don't let it frustrate me, rather I think it is funny the way the date is bouncing all over the place. Even though sUSA called, it makes me wonder if, since nobody has a VIN if maybe the car will be reconfigured. Regardless, I'm okay with either configuration.

As for the women and marriage, it took me three times to get it right. The third time was the charm. Great woman, wife, mother and friend. It has stuck for nearly 20 years now, the best that any other did was three. I waited for ten years after the second marriage, met and dated a number of women. My wife and I dated for a year, living over a hundred miles apart while doing it, then were careful about getting married. There are some great people out there and one is meant for you. Keep the faith.

My biggest regret is I didn't know I could reserve sooner and I wouldn't have had to go these 2 months without a smart! Our dealer didn't open until February 1. Ah, well, like all things in life, waiting adds zest of anticipation, dreaming of accessories, driving, and how life will be different. My motorcycle goes to make room for the smart, but that's okay too, it's time for the change.
You're a good man Mr BE! I enjoy reading your posts; they have a helping of wit, with a dash of sarcasm at times, and gobs of helpfulness and encouragement.
I am still looking for the web site with the bumpers, I know I have a link somewhere but have checked three computers so far - working on my fourth.
