451 smart fortwo

Apologies if this has already been discussed (tell me where if it has).
Our Passion now starts up with heat coming from the vents and air-con not working at all. It did it last year and the garage reset the software, Apparently this is now a recognised fault which smart are looking to find a proper solution to. Advised today that a "temporary fix" is to switch off the ignition and then on again which breaks the power to the aircon sensor software and makes it work OK. IT DOESN'T
Wil report this to garage tomorrow, but wondered if anyone else had had this problem and more importantly got it fixed permanently.
Any thoughts welcome.
Paul

Do you have right hand drive?
I have left hand drive being in the USA and had an air conditioning problem when the car was brand new. I took a 3 hour drive during 100 degree F weather. I had to keep adjusting the a.c. down in temp finally to maximmum cool to be comfortable. I later read how to fix that on one of these sites. There is a sensor on the left hand side of MY passenger (rt. side of car) foot well up above the battery just below the dashboard.. The sensor is probably a temperature sensitive diode. It simply unplugs from the a.c. plenum. I unplugged mine and plugged it back in, problem solved. This must disturb the connection enough to clean the crimped wire connection to make it start working again. My guess is that the impedance is so low for this solid state device that it doesn't take much to iinterfere with it's ability to read temp. A lot of temp controllers have been replaced per the star computer's instruction when it is more likely to be the sensor connection, IMHO. Good luck. I am loving my fortwo. I hope our Mitsubishi power plants will outlast your 3 year lifespan. With the way the engine/powertrain disconnects from the car, they should be infinitely rebuildable, if the star commputer doesn't make that repair expensively impossible for the hobbiest. V.W.'s of the 60's were sooo recyclable and popular with tinkerers for that reason.
Happy Hollidays

It's happened to all of us, driving along the highway minding our own business, when a chip of stone kicked up by the car in front pings against the window and chips it. It's one of the most frustrating things that can happen to your car, and consid…

Herb, well it's more than timing. The nitty-gritty of what maps are adjusted and how, is, as you might imagine, secret. But I can tell you that Piasini does adjust timing, as well as throttle maps, fuel curves(including full throttle enrichment, low…

Well for what its worth and knowledge being golden, you are welcomed to share the door unlocking technique with me. My wife has managed on complete accident on 2 occasions to securely lock the keys to one of our other cars inside, with the engine ru…

Interesting reply. So the 20% increase in Rear Wheel Horsepower (RWHP) can most likely be attributed to remapping the ignition timing? I see that you also offer reflashes for the engine controller on MB's SL 230K. Does the same software work on the…

Well, in truth, we have seen a little incease in fuel efficiency, but that sort of seems to get lost with customers. Most folks are so amused with the increased performance of their car, they forget the got it for economy reasons and keep the right…
