Real World Mileage...

What is everyone getting in 'Real-World' mileage?
I have heard the EPA's rating, but I don't trust their 'calculations' (even the new ones).*
How about it folks, what's your city/highway L/100km? Miles per gallon?
And what type of fuel/engine?
Country?

Check page 7 (of these posts), posted by Rick Masters, for information about pulling the milage out of the 'auto' 'D' setting.

*The vehicle (smartcar Pure) is designed to achieve 40 city/45 highway mpg according to 2007 EPA standards and 33 city/41 highway mpg according to 2008 EPA standards.

We do agree on one thing -- the people in Washington are idiots.

My first tank was 40.3 MPG

My second tank was 35 MPG but almost all of the 2nd full tank was at ~80MPH zipping to the SFO airport (320 miles RT)

USA/premium fuel

Changed my oil from the Mobil One 0W-40 to Castrol Syntec 0W-30 Euro Formula and went from the OEM Filter to a Mobile M1-108. This seems to have improved MPG better than 10%...saw 43 MPG on last tank after the change.

Can a different oil have that much effect?

Who knows. Dumb luck? :-) With so many variables (weather, wind, speed, AC or not, etc.) and such a small tank, it only takes a 10th of a gallon here or there to make a significant difference it seems. The average over several fill ups will be the truest measure most likely.

It is true. That is why I just say 40 MPG. I have gotten as low as 36 and as high as 46 MPG. The couple times I drove for fairly long trips on the highway, the gas mileage was not that great. It might be because the engine was still fairly new. Who knows? I have sonsistently gotten 39 MPG going back and forth from home and work, which is 35 miles 1 way on mostly 2 lane road where I hit top speed of 60mph. It does say in the manual that the cold can make the gas mileage go down.
