Real World Mileage...

What is everyone getting in 'Real-World' mileage?
I have heard the EPA's rating, but I don't trust their 'calculations' (even the new ones).*
How about it folks, what's your city/highway L/100km? Miles per gallon?
And what type of fuel/engine?
Country?

Check page 6 (of these posts), posted by Rick Masters, for information about pulling the milage out of the 'auto' 'D' setting.

*The vehicle (smartcar Pure) is designed to achieve 40 city/45 highway mpg according to 2007 EPA standards and 33 city/41 highway mpg according to 2008 EPA standards.

1st refill neted 37 mpg. Mostly city, a lot of hot rodding (to test performance & show off to friends)

I like your style. How many cars can hot rod and show off and get 37mpg!?!? Drive fast...take chances...be smart! :-)

just got back from a little trip down to melbourne, Fl from Jax.. one tank of gas there and back... you do the math.. I'm tired, the winds were awfull! I saw TWO semis on their side due to the wind! It was not nice driving....

My last fill-up was with mid-grade (89 octane). Mileage on this tank was 43 MPG. We had been averaging 42-43 MPG so no appreciable change.

Car has 2500 miles. Driven exclusively in "auto" mode. Usually with driver and passenger. Not much stop & go. About half this tank was freeway miles @ 65-75 MPH. Most of the other half was in a suburban setting with lots of hills.

With the 89 octane, did you feel any difference in pep? They told me at the dealership that the highest octane (93) was recommended but using 89 was o.k., just expect lower performance. Is that what you found?

The car felt normal. No pinging. No loss of power. This was just 1 tankful but the results are very encouraging.

I've had my smart for three months now and the mileage now is alot better than when it was brand new.
Feb. 34.92 MPG
March 37.52 MPG
April 38.11 MPG

The numbers show that after breaking it in the mileage will increase..

The longer I have my smart the happier I am that I got it!

My first three tanks have been:

30.2
29.8
33.4

All city driving. The first two tanks where all in manual mode with the top down as much as possible. The third tank was all auto mode, and I only took the top back to its first setting.

I just got back from a 150 mile round trip, all highway miles trip, and all with the top up. I haven't filled up yet, but I don't think my mileage is much different than what I have already experienced.

Somewhere on this thread someone stated that the cabrio gets about 10% lower mileage. My experience, as compared to this board, is that it is more like 20%.

Yeah, don't feel bad or that you got a lemon! I've got the exact same experience you have been getting. People are claiming in the 40's and I'm getting 33 at best. I live in L.A. and drive around with top down all day, lot's and lot's of stop and go. Lot's of errands all day. I don't "mash" the pedal like people are saying. I drive very softly and smoothly. These people must live downhill both ways with tail winds or only use the car to go down their driveway to get the mail. I'm on my 10th tank. I've also driven in both modes, but haven't tried keeping my top on. Maybe that will be the next test.

i'm going to road america next saturday for the cannonball, it's a bit over 150 miles each way (155 miles, 170 minutes by mapquest (54.7 mph average for trip, should be a good indicator of highway milage, i'll hit 2000 miles this week on my smart)), i'll fill up on 87 or 89 octane before the trip, should be interesting! the one tank i had a good amount of highway milage on was 46mpg, otherwise, i've been at 41-42mpg in my daily commutes.
