451 smart fortwo

I looked at the Smart Luggage/Cargo net and it installs flat across the floor. I am looking that will fasten from side to side to keep items from shifting forward into the back of the seats. I have a 2009 fortwo

the insides are plastic, you can drill and install a few eye bolts in strategic places and use bungee cords. a rubber mat would also suffice (i buy two 30 can cases of beer a week and they slide all over the place!, wump! wump!)

annoying as hell, but only for the mile or two from the store to home.

You need the standard smart cargo compartment net with blind. Refer to "Loading and storing" in your owner's manual.

It's a great device. Fits into the lower position and practically disappears when not needed. (Unlike some cars that when you take it out, you have nowhere to put it.)

The only annoyance is the net has Velcro on the bottom edge that can grab hold of the carpet where you don't want it to, when moving the divider from top to bottom locations.

I got my divider/cargo cover at my smart dealer. Didn't want to have something that was untidy. It's spring loaded cross bar makes for easy removal (which I've only done one time) and the divider flap secures in place with a strong line of velcro that hooks to the carpet. on the passenger side of the divider flap are two nice sized net areas for added storage. I also have a cargo organizer that I picked up locally that keeps all my little stuff together. I picked up my divider/cargo area cover for about $140.00. Worth it for both looks and function.

This is exactly what I wanted. If they had shown me this or I had seen it in the brochure it would already be in my car. Just goes to show that user groups are very important. thanks

Tony,

You don't happen to have the part number for this divider from the invoice, do you?

I see that the part number has been provided by D Wilson for the retractable luggage compartment cover. In any case, if you go to www.smartusa.com/smart-accessories.aspx you will be able to find the link to view the catalog.
You can find many of the "official' Accessories from Smart. I also saw this at www.smartmadness.com they have a part number A4518100009 if you are not local to a smartcenter in the US you could order it. The upper cage allowing even more to be piled in to the back was not seen on the smartmadness site but you should be able to find that through the dealer or maybe another mail order site. Good Luck Steven.

In addition to the roller blind that covers the bottom 18" of the cargo compartment, there is also a floor to ceiling net that installs behind the passenger compartment, and has a flap that covers the cargo compartment in a similar fashion to the roller blind. We have had some trouble finding one of these here in Houston, and ultimately ended up having it installed at smart Center Round Rock (just north of Austin).

With this net in place, you can stack all the way to the roof without having anything come forward into the passenger area. While the blind portino does not retract like the one described below, we have found with our limited experience that this is not much of a negative.

There is also the rear area protector sheet system, which covers the floor, walls and the backs of the seats from pet hair and all sechlike. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the net system.

Steve,
I brought mine from Plaza Motors in St. Louis. They had to order them for me and they came in two types. The first one was a Roller Blind cost $149.00. Has a post that come up halfway up the seats and fits in the groves across the sides. It had 2 netting pockets facing the front of the car and velcro across the bottom that attach to the carpet and keep things from rolling to the front.
The second one, Luggage Net cost me $249.00. It attaches to the roof of the car and down to the carpet. Keeps things piled high from flying into the front of the car. It also has a screen that can hide whats in the back from the window down. Cost me $75.00 to have them install it. You can use either, but not at the same time.
Order from David Brittain, parts Consultant Plaza Motors 314-919-8489 dbrittain@plazamotor.com
Hope I helped,
Donita
