Has anyone had their blower fan for heating/AC work intermitently our stop working period? If Yes...............know how to fix it yourself. My dealer is 1-1/2 hours each way and I don't want to make that trip. I was hoping Mercedes dealers would service Smart Cars now that Penske has bowed out!

Go over to: www.smartcarofamerica.com and do a search on this topic. The motor is easy to remove and if you want to repair it, remove the cover and clean up the commutator on the motor armature and reinstall.

Thank U Robert.................I'll try this over the weekend.

Did U have this problem? Also I seem to be replacing lamps

quite often. Rear left turn lamp twice and low beam headlight lamp.

I had to have this recently replaced under extra warranty. This should be recalled; its defective. Also have had to replace both headlights replaced. Strange.o

I still have this problem, even after I cleaned the motor plug. Every time it doesn't work I have to go there and shake the plug.

I'm tired and ready to solder it.

Hello Bill: No I have fortunately not had this issue with my smart. I do know of others who have. I think this issue may be one supplier of blower motors as some Mercedes-Benz models have also had this issue. There has been a shortage of replacement motors and they are on backorder from time to time. The motor is easy to remove, disassemble, and restore. I would check the connector also, as this has been an issue. Try some contact cleaner and then use some silicone grease in the connector. I have never burnt out a bulb, knock on wood. I think the excessive jouncing of the smarts suspension causes pre-mature bulb failure that many have experienced.
Robert you are lucky. For some reason my car has this problem at least once a year. I've cleaned mine last year and it worked out perfect. Now, its acting up again. I will have to probably fix it right away since the weather is getting hotter. No heater, no AC. it looks the problem is in the design of something causing build up to happen. Maybe moister is somehow getting in there from a bad seal or something. it is a very disappointing problem with this car.
Mine just acted up around the 10,000 mile check-up. It started as a intermittent mild squeal then it wouldn't work just after I took it to the car wash. I left it on high on the way home when it suddenly started working again. Mentioned problem during check-up and they just replaced it.

Chris....................just had my blower fan replaced by the dealer last Saturday. They gave me a choice of brand new unit for $380.00 or rebuilt unit for $100.00. Asked them to replace it under warranty since the problem started while the car was in warranty. They declined. When I told them Smart USA and this website

had several complaints by various owners they agreed to provide a rebuilt unit for $50.00 and 60 day warranty.

It took them less than 15 minutes to change it out!
