I wanted to add fog lights to my car and decided to call the dealer to install them. The dealer told me it can't be done. This was News to me can't be done.
Has anyone dealt with this problem.
I would love to add fog lights to my car.
The dealer is right and wrong.
First you can add the fog lights to your car.
Just call the parts department and ask them for Smart Fog lights. If they don't have them in stock then ask them for R-Class fog lights left and right side. They are same fog lights for Smart and R-Class. Next buy 4 fixing screws # A0119846529. Also ask for fog light covers for the Smart. Everything will fit in place very easy.
The only problem is fuse #5 that powers the lights is not programed and this is where the dealer is telling you the fog lights will not work. You will have to supply power to the fog lights. If you need help with that I can give you info on how to.
In the picture you can see the wires for the fog lights.
Kahn, I just remove the switch bank and pick the second one (which is #1 on the instruction in evlution) from the left for the fog lights and modified it as evlution instruction. When I press on it, there is a green light come one. I notice that from other car that is the switch for fog lights. I wonder if it is already program for the 2009 cars. Any idea. Thanks.
Thanks Kahn! I printed up and showed this to the dealer's GM...who in fact accompanied me to parts to query this. Parts said, "NOPE". Tackling that work would certaily void the warranty with the exceptional electrical complexity. Just as I figured. But thanks very much for the heads-up. I appreciate the response !
Take care...drive careful.

Well Jim we were waiting that the Smart will give the code to dealerships to power the fogs. It has not happened. So I guess we might have to power them our selves.
im going to install a set soon, i hope. and id like to put the led? bulb inside the housing for a added effect when the fogs are off / lites on. was that a evil thing? id put a small "lite on" switch on the dash. somewhere visable on a seperate circuit to power the fogs.

I called the parts department. They were out of the Smart fogs but had the R/Class lights. R/class fogs were about 10 dollars more. Will pick them up as I drop my SL for service.
It's time to move on. I've deleted my posts and never to return.
I wish the Smart Madness Team and the Smart Car Community an Excellent New Year!!
