First and foremost I love my SMART and will buy another in the future. I just have one problem.
I have been sick for months with sinus infection and a horrible cough. Sometimes I felt like my throat was closing up. Finally I figured out since the temperature went down here in MS, and there was a couple of mornings I didn't turn the ac on in my car, that it was mold in my car. Then after researching this forum I found out about the cabin filter. Before I found your site I e-mailed SMART and asked if there was a problem with mold in the car and they said they have never had a problem with that. Well after reading this forum, I hate to use this language but they have to be lying. Now I need to find out how to get the filter out to change. Can someone help me? I am tired of being sick.

Its under the dash on the drivers side.\ up against what normaly would be the fire wall

When I got my service at 10K they replaces the simple paper filter with a heafty Heppa filter.

Thanks. I ordered a new filter yesterday from SMART. Shipping & tax made it about $56.00. Did the heppa filter help? I appreciate your time.

I can roll the window down about 1" because of the hot weather here. Its not just the SMART that has this problem. When I was researching, somewhere on the net, they said that several new cars have this problem. Where are you from that you just need the windows down in the summer. I'm in MS so we are 90 - 105 in the summer.

sorry to burst your bubble Forrest... there is no HEPA filter for the smart. it is a carbon filter that filters more of the smells out of the air.. that is all.

to access the cabin air filter, open the drivers door as far as it will go. kneel on the floor with your torso inside the foot well. BEHIND the gas pedal you will see a hinged door about 2 inches wide and 10 inches tall. that is the filter door, it opens by pressing the two tabs closest to the fire wall. the door swings towards you and unhinges. inside you will see the old filter. NOT AIR FLOW!!!!! remove and inspect for mold growth... mine had lots 6 months into ownership. take pics if it does and post them here for people to see. replace with the carbon filter.. note that air flow is towards the shifter!. replace lid, and now you have officially saved your nose from itching and about 40 dollars that the dealer would have charged you to do this 3 minute job!!!! well done!

It would be fun and a greater incentive to go if a convoy could be established from California?
