April 1, 2008: Breaking news Toyota just announced they bought 100% control of smart and have stopped production of the 2008 smart fortwo as they will be selling the Toyota IQ instead.
The smart fortwo has just gone on sale in the United States and many people who put the $99 deposit haven’t even received their smarts. Now with Toyota stopping production of the 2008 smart fortwo many are left wondering what will happen with their deposits.
Toyota has made this dramatic move after the success of the Toyota IQ at the Geneva Motor Show and the overwhelming success of the smart fortwo in the United States. The success of the smart in the United States is what made Toyota decided to buy control of smart in order to quickly inject the Toyota IQ into the US marketplace and prevent the smart fortwo from taking control of the market.
During the transition of the two companies smart and Toyota have formed the smarToyota Corporation and the website http://www.smarToyota.com which will allow people to get more information about this breaking news and how things will be moving forward.
Personally I am very saddened by this news as I love my smart and was really looking forward to more people around the United States being able to share in the joy of the smart. Maybe on this day April 1, 2008 the smart Owners and Enthusiasts of the world will unite and rally smart to reject Toyotas control and retain the smart in the worldwide market.
UPDATE:
Hope that you have all gotten your fill of April fool jokes today and have visted the smarToyota.com site and figured out that the news today about smart and Toyota was our way of trying to make people smile on this historically fun day.
For those who found it funny I hope you shared it with others and those who didn’t find it amusing my apology. Now my personal favorite announcement made today was that Google taking over the US Government: http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/04/01/14FE-april-fool-google-us...
