My car is a passion coupe turbo 2009. I'm planning to install a subwoofer, and have gone through the forums but haven't found much info. It comes with the radio 9, with aux port. I already installed Sirius radio, placing the antenna under the hood and the radio inside the glove compartment, and using an additional hidden lighter socket, under the dashboard connected to the stock lighter to give it power. During the installation process I found a cable that seems to be the connection for a subwoofer, under tha dashoboard on the passenger's side. Has anyone connected a subwoofer here? I looked for a pre-wired installation under the passenger seat but found nothing. I probably will need a power amp as well.
BTW, my car has no PRND setup but instead just a R N wit an AUTO button on the side. I guess this configuration applies for my country.

I will be tackling the creation of a sub box for our smarts this coming week end. I might do an 8" version and spec out one for a 10" sub (overkill)..

I have an 8" under the dash. I love it!

I finally got the subwoofer under the dashboard. It's an 8" JBL GTO series, and made a box for it. Installation and setup came up clean, though it took a while for me to do it, since I don't have too much time for this kind of projects anymore.
I'll post pics later.

Logan, Dtrick, please give us info on how you did the install and I know opinions are very hard to quantify... But would you do anything differently, what did you learn from the experience?. how are you powering these 8s? do you have dimmentions that you would like to share with us?

I do not have the measurements of the box, I have my local audio shop come up with something. I'm using an 8" Infinity sub powered by a 4-channel 420w MTX Audio amp. When I got it installed I ran a couple tests - I would play a song with the sub on, then turn it off, then back on again. WOW! Without the sub it felt like it was missing something. It definitely makes a difference. I believe someone posted measurements over on SCOA before... Not sure. Here are some pictures,

I have the same setup as Logan. I have a JBL 8" sub woofer and a 250 W, 2 channel Sony AMP that supports direct output for the sub, located under the passenger's seat. The nominal inputo for the sub is 200 W, 800 W MAX, so the configuration is OK. At low volume you just hear a little bit more of sound quality thanks to the door speakers, but at high volume the difference is quite noticeable.

I'll post pics tomorrow, today my smart stayed at home.

I'm interested in how the sub box is attached to the smart. I DON'T want to drill anything but do want it to be secure and resonance free.

I believe he used factory points that already had screws, but I could be wrong. I will go check it out later tonight for you. Deviltrick should be able to help you with what points he used.

It's too dark to get some better pictures and see the exact mounting locations, however when I looked at it before you won't have a problem finding mounting points.

The sound system looks good.

i used to have a geo metro, and would lock a set of keys in the car, carry house and car keys in my wallet, just in case i lost the other set while travelling, smart keys are an arm and a leg to get spares made, and are LARGE (not wallet friendly).…

LOL, sorry, learn something new everyday, if you're not careful! probably the 10mph "auto-lock" feature kicked in. i've found the only other way (so far) to lock the keys in the car is by locking the doors from the outside and tossing the keys throu…

I left the ignition on to tow my Smart Car a short way on a car dolly. Do not do this with the windows up. The doors automatically lock! It took me two hours to figure out how to get in without damabing the car.

I have another question, how does the re tune effect fuel efficiency? I bought my smart with the belief that fuel prices would go up and for my daily commute back and fourth to the office there is no need for me to drive my 3.0L V6 Maxima when I am…

Herb, good comments and questions. You point about re-assuring prospective customers is well taken, thank you! It is not well known here in the United States, but in the EU,file theft is a huge issue for tuners. This is why the files are all locked…

Say, WHAT? No cdi? Damn! It's what I wanted all along since test-driving a CDI in Frankfurt 10 years ago! Looks like VW is going to get my future business (@#$%@#$).Unfortunately, I can't stand their proprietary B.S., their insane pricing for mainte…
