Americans really seem not to like automated manual transmissions. As we all know, smart has been routinely criticized for its tranny's characteristics. Today I see reports that Ford lost North American Car of the Year Award honors to Hyundai because of the judges' dissatisfaction with the Ford Focus PowerShift dual-clutch "automatic," which is really a manual with an automated clutch. Personally, I'd be interested in seeing how well their dual-clutch setup lessens shift lag times.
