451 smart fortwo

hi
I am new to this smart thing (just picked up a pure orphan last week)
I am going to need winter tires. I found a set on steel wheels for a great price, but since they are a few years old they are pre sensor. I found sensors at tire rack.for a decent price (40 bucks each). I will of course have to have the sensors installed. Do they need to be 'programmed' by a dealer? or is it something anyone or tire shop could do? my plan is to use the winter tires/wheels in winter and and change over to 'summer' tires/wheels in spring.
thanks for your help\

well, they should work fine, but if you can live with the tire pressure icon for a few months, you don't need them, just look at your tires every day. steel wheels are better than aluminum alloy wheels, aluminum is more porous an they loose air faster than steel.

I am little paranoid driving with lights on and no spare. (and I am not one of those check the tire pressure in the winter guys )

I don't mind buying the sensors and having them installed I am just confused on how they are 'programmed' to the car.
When I change tires (with the new rims and new sensors) do you have to just hit the reset button on the dash? or is there something else to it?
