I have notice that my Passion coupe will be delivered by September 2, 2009 but the dealer tells me it will be titled as a 2009 instead of a 2010 like other new cars in the US being delivered in September! What gives here? I was expecting it to be a 2010 given the late year delivery date.

The August auto model year roll over is a USA thing... smart is not an American manufacturer and is new to that market so does not follow that idiom.
Your smart will take a few months for build and shipment from France. Mine was built July 14 2008, finally delivered September 30. Compliance and year model plates are 2008... not 2009.

Thank you for the additional data. So, the area between the Red line and the Green line represents additional power going to the crankshaft (ot rear wheels?) There seems to be some conflict between methodologies, or so it looks from the descriptions…
