ca and some other states have tough emission laws. smart or whoever have to build to the toughest laws. that's why we will never see a tata as is on our rds. another wt discerpancy might be the extra steel to get it thru the crash tests. a thot.

In Europe, the IQ (toyota) has a fuel economy of 4.3 liter/100km for the 1.0 998cc engine. The smart 451 has also 4.3 liter/100km with start/stop system. In real driving, both cars use more fuel.

AFAIK curb (kerb) weight is defined the same in Europe as in the US. Curb (kerb) weight is specified in both the American & European literature for smart fortwo.
