smart Car
I checked out some of the blogs on the options for switching tire sizes on the smart. For anyone interested and I ;hope this is not a repeat of someone elses idea, but I decided I wanted better gas mileage and a better ride. Those low profile tires on 15, or worse yet, 17 inch wheels may look 'cool'. But they do nothing at all for the ride. Unless you don't mind having you and the smart vibrated to death. Anyway, most of my driving is not city driving, so I just put 165/60 15's on the front and 195/60 15's on the rear. Haven't checked the gas mileage yet but the ride is a lot better. rh

i ride with 195/50-15's all around, gas mileage during acceleration is hurt a little (i have a scan gauge II) but overall, it's only a couple percent, i can still clock trips well over 50mpgs.

Greetings, thanks for the reply. Kudos on your gas mileage stats and on your smart, black on black, looks good. Larger diameter tires should give you better mileage, especially highway driving. The less number of revolutions per mile of your tire equals less revolutions of your engine. Reference www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html for tire specs. Ride wise, 15 or 17 you are going to vibrate because its a suspension issue more than a wheel size issue. Handling wise, you do feel the differrence with the bigger and wider sizes, especially when manouevering at higher speeds.... Gas milage will not be affected if you install bigger size rims, especially if they are forged light aluminum... The wider tyres on the other hand can affect the milage, but frankly speaking on such an economical car, you wont feel the difference...

I'm interested in the same thing, I have a 2006 fourtwo Passion CDI, interested in a tach (have the clock) along with installation instructions. I have heard that an engine computer reset is required (technician's job) - is this the case?
