Just looked at your catalog for the light kit. Does your extra wiring make it possible to run the more powerful bulbs? I was just told by the smart people here in San Antonio that the smart cannot handle stringer bulbs.

The smart car people in SA were correct!

Regular HID kits have a number of issues. The biggest issue is the lower voltage output that is put out by the smart headlights.

Our kit is the ONLY kit that has been specifically designed for the smart car. Do not be mislead by other vendors on the Internet claiming their kit is/was designed for the smart. No one has made the investment in the tooling to produce a smart car specific kit except for us.

All other HID kits are a "one size all" solution that have a spotty record with the smart. That is why the dealer told you what he did. He is not familiar with the kit we have had designed and is referring to the other kits that are commonly advertised on forums, eBay and all over the Internet.

Examine the photos closely and you will see the difference. Our kit has a ballast that is designed to work with the voltage output of the smart. In addition, it is designed to take place of the stock rubber cap that is located on the back of the headlight. No external ballasts that are usually mounted with zip ties and double sided tape. No long wires, no worries about whether or not it will work long term and mostly no worries about the double sided tape coming loose over time and having your HID ballasts bounce around your engine bay as you drive.

We have dealt with all these issues before and due to this decided to make the investment and make a proper set. If you have any other questions about the HID set or any other products please do not hesitate to give us a call at 562-961-6800.

If you are interested in a simple, good quality, generic version of an HID conversion kit with an external ballast that is mounted with double sided tape we can offer you those as well along with the best warranty and price.

Over the last week we have been in discussions with the manufacturer that makes our HID kit. I am happy to say that they are very confident about the design and the quality of the kit. Due to this and the amount of the smart car specific HID kits that have been sold they have agreed to extend the warranty to a full LIFETIME replacement warranty.

What does this mean?

Our smart car specific HID kit is now covered under a full lifetime warranty. This warranty covers all the parts and even the bulbs! Please check the product description on our site for details.

Now the best HID kit in the market place just got better!

Do not be fooled by other vendors claiming they are selling a smart car specific HID kit. Ask for proof and pictures!

If it looks anything like the picture below it is not a smart car specific HID kit. It is a "generic" HID kit with external ballasts and additional external plugs and wiring.

Julie, I agree, they need to step up their advertising. I know the dealer here in San Antonio has about 2 dozen cars on the lot and I haven't noticed too many of them moving. Also, they seem to lose a lot of repeat customers because of the cost of…

I"ve been hearing a lot about dealerships closing all across the USA, and I have to say I'm quite concerned. Sales are WAY down, to the point where dealers can't cover their overhead. Why hasn't Smart USA launched an advertising campaign? Don't the…

I agree with you, Herb. At first I was gentle on my smartie and my mpg was mid-30's. After I got used to driving it, I started having fun and was hard on the gas pedal doing 70-80 mph, quick starts getting on to the freeway, flooring it to downshift…

L. R., See my comment to Walter. Also, start pushing the car a lot harder. Your engine needs to be worked hard to loosen up and give you better mileage. Never mind the "soft-pedal" approach in "D". Go for the gusto in Manual mode. Works great in the…

Walter, take the car back to the dealer and request that they perform an MPG check for you. There's no charge for cars still in warranty. Herb

I bought my 2008 SMART used with 14,000 miles on the clock. At first, I got about 25 mpg, so I took it to Mercedes for a check-up. The results came back as 36.9 mpg! I have no idea if they did anything to the car or not, but I too suddenly got city…

Above 65 mph mpg goes down, wind and it goes down, allowing your foot to get heavy, goes down. I drive in semi urban and get 38-40 all the time. But in the city stop and go, I accelerate very slowly and as the clutch disengages , I lift slightly so…
