My heater fan in the last few weeks has sometimes not been going on right away but rather after a while. Is this normal?
Sometimes its on instantaneously, other times it goes on after a bit.
Usually when it is extremely cold.

Thanks!

Here is the link to how to fix it. It is actually the blower not the heater. I've got the same problem, I just haven't had a chance to do it yet. Mine went from intermittent to not working at all. Lucky I have heated seats.

Hope it works out for you.

Here is an update:

I was able to do the above procedure to fix the blower for my heater. It turned out to be very easy. The tricky part was removing the blower because of its location but once you get it out, you remove the housing then clean it up with sandpaper. I did an additional step by spraying a little bit of WD-40 and cleaning it up with a paper towel. Now it works like new.

Thanks for the link, not experiencing that particular issue currently but it's never bad to have a knowledge base of potential fixes.

Thanks for all the info!
As it turns out, the motor is acting up and they will be replacing it under warranty.
Now. it totally makes sense what it is. When the motor doesnt go on, if I drive and it hits a bump it works. So something has gummed it up and if its cleaned i'm certain it would work great.
Hmm. I wonder if the dealership would give me the old motor??

Julie, I agree, they need to step up their advertising. I know the dealer here in San Antonio has about 2 dozen cars on the lot and I haven't noticed too many of them moving. Also, they seem to lose a lot of repeat customers because of the cost of…

I"ve been hearing a lot about dealerships closing all across the USA, and I have to say I'm quite concerned. Sales are WAY down, to the point where dealers can't cover their overhead. Why hasn't Smart USA launched an advertising campaign? Don't the…

I agree with you, Herb. At first I was gentle on my smartie and my mpg was mid-30's. After I got used to driving it, I started having fun and was hard on the gas pedal doing 70-80 mph, quick starts getting on to the freeway, flooring it to downshift…

L. R., See my comment to Walter. Also, start pushing the car a lot harder. Your engine needs to be worked hard to loosen up and give you better mileage. Never mind the "soft-pedal" approach in "D". Go for the gusto in Manual mode. Works great in the…

Walter, take the car back to the dealer and request that they perform an MPG check for you. There's no charge for cars still in warranty. Herb

I bought my 2008 SMART used with 14,000 miles on the clock. At first, I got about 25 mpg, so I took it to Mercedes for a check-up. The results came back as 36.9 mpg! I have no idea if they did anything to the car or not, but I too suddenly got city…

Above 65 mph mpg goes down, wind and it goes down, allowing your foot to get heavy, goes down. I drive in semi urban and get 38-40 all the time. But in the city stop and go, I accelerate very slowly and as the clutch disengages , I lift slightly so…
