On eBay search for "Brake Light flasher" - usually in the $15-$20 range

Helps the vehicle be seen from the rear, just like any other flashing/blinking light - if the drivers behind you aren't on the cell phone or fiddling with their MP3 players, etc. Good luck with that. . .

Has anyone tried it?

I bought one on Ebay -- search for "Rearalert" -- $14.95 + 3.95 shipping. Worked like a charm and easy to install. FYI, the brown wire is ground in the 451.

Thanks for the info. I will work on getting one. 14.95 is a good price.

14.95 sounds like a safe investment.

Be careful with the other flashing 3rd rear high-mounted brake lights. Before buying mine, I did some research with the NHTA and due diligence with the various companies and found out that any brake lights that flashing are not legal and can get users in trouble with law-enforcement officials for not meeting the NHTA's code/specification of brake lights having to illuminate in a "steady" state, thus "flashing" (on/off) is not in code. The BrakeSafe System is within the NHTA's guidelines due to the "non-flashing", but "pulsing" operation. Their system makes the brake light pulse "on and almost completely off" 4 times all within a span of between 1-2 seconds, so as not to be too distracting.

the whole point of this device is to distract stupid drivers and alert them there is traffic beyond their cell phones, radios, lunches and beveridges! i was rear ended once by a doofuss munching on a whopper! i watched it through the rear view mirror, i was stopped, he had a whopper in his pie-hole and BAMMMM!!!!!! and this clown was driving an oversized (stretched) chevy van, full of carpet rolls. also, the van was listed under his girlfriend and had NO INSURANCE!!! he skated in court, IL has manditory insurance and he had none, just a fat whopper belly!

I put in a rear alert from eBay several months ago. It's a very simple, 10 minute install and the unit works great.

Yes mine works very well. I bought it on Ebay and it took a few minutes to install.

Mine came with it fitted as standard, if you brake hard at over 70kmh your hazard/indicator lights flash automatically.
I can't be sure but i think its law on all new cars in europe, its like it on my BMW as well........
Hope this is the same thing that you are talking about but it only happens if you brake hard at over 70 kmh.

Roger.

For the record, this idea has been around since the 1990's. The earliest I recall, I installed a very simple electronic flasher on the two 'inboard' break lights of my VW Rabbit Diesel. The car had a total of 4 brake lights so I sep...

Hmm, poltergeist? Is your car alarm RF activated? Do you arm and disarm it via a key fob? If so, maybe the phone and the alarm are on the same frequency. Try moving the phone to another location, or better still, if your phone has 2 channels A-B, ...

Hi Katie, I think you (and I) may be out of luck. I also bought a pure (in May 2008) as an orphan. Whoever ordered it originally had specified zero options above base level. No radio, no A/C...nada. It was the only orphan available at the time at...
