As an update, I've had the Solo Performance exhaust for several months. I find it to be too loud for normal driving. I've put Dynamat and even put the sound barrier and it is still too loud. I've compared it with other people's exhaust and they have agreed that mine was louder than theirs. It sounded good at first, but after a few months, the sound gets old. This is just my update after several months of driving.

which solo exhaust do you have? i ordered the side exit with the special joint with limited torque bolts. i think it's coming tomorrow (been ordered from ebay on 10/10/09, slow mail)

I have the center, one holed exhaust. If it is too loud, you can always return it.

I think the smart exhaust should be left on the car if you plan to drive it every day.
It is build to last.
Very well constructed. If you do change your exhaust save the original as you will need it down the road.
If you plan to change then look at the exhaust very carefully on the construction of the exhaust.
Many exhausts on the market for smart are ordinary exhaust that local stores sell for a cheap price.
Check the welds as they will come apart due to vibrations.

Thank you Kahn. I agree. I originally had a problem when a high school employee at SM installed my Solo Exhaust and the bolt vibrated loose. After having aftermarket exhausts in all my cars, this has NEVER happend. So, a bolt coming loose means the installer absolutely did not know how to install an exhaust. The word "torque specification" was not a part of their vocabulary. The guy could not even install an intake correctly. (That's another story). So, my exhaust fell apart due to poor installation, I mean lack of knowledge.

Another thing when getting an aftermarket exhaust is to know for a FACT that your catalytic converter will not be able to handle the vibration and in time will break at the flange. It will break due to poor material by SMART. How do I know? Mine just broke at the flange. A person I know had the exact same thing happen. At this time, the only way to avoid this is to take off your catalytic converter and put an extra weld to strengthen it. But the problem is, taking off the cat, is not for everyone.

i would think that an aftermarket exhaust installed properly would put less of a load on the converter, seeing that it weighs a bit less than the stock unit. i will hold onto the original exhaust. i have a sheet of dynamat extreme to line the engine cover.

That's pretty much bullcrap as I know smart owners who have done over 100,000 MILES on the same belt. EVERYBODY drives on the highway in UK, and they dont go through belts. I have belts in my stock, havent had that many customers for them up to no...

Does this have some proper stop to rest it on the mounting arm when it's down? and how about some height adjustment to lift up the end of the arm as required? Bought a similar one a year ago from USA with a rough filed bit underneath that has dug ...

There's always one, isn't there. Stupidity has no bounds.

I can only guess at the engine belt arrangement for the 450. I've never seen one in detail. "Fan" belt is a bit of an anachronism since the days of a belt driven cooling fan are long gone on most cars. A single belt driving the alternator and wat...

We have a Canadian 2005 Pure, and you are correct on the engine specs, however we are at just over 4 years and 80 000km. The car has been serviced according to the 8000km recommendation, not including over 12 000 dollars worth of repairs since las...
