I've tried every combination of turning the radio off and combinations of the key on -off that I can think of, but every time I turn the ignition on, the radio is already on.
So how do you get the radio to be off when turning the ignition to on?
I'll try down in the smart this afternoon but maybe put it into AUX and then when you turn on the car it will go to AUX and nothing will play, this would require you to always switch to AUX before you turn off the car.
Another idea which is a little harder setup, is to wire a switch into the power line, put the switch on the side of the radio out of site and then when you want the radio on you can flip the switch. While this would work again would mean you need to switch it off before turning the car back on, so its almost like switching into AUX.
aux would work as well, but i have a pioneer unit, not the smart unit. i always want my radio on, what ticks me off is there is no AUX position in the ignition to play the radio without the car being in the run position with the ignition key. i just wonder if i'm draining extra juice from the battery keeping it in the run position playing the radio without the engine running.
Ah the factory stereo plays without the key, I'd look and see what power lines the factory lines where using and use the same so that you can play the stereo without the car needing to be on.
Key off: Radio On or Off
Key On: Radio On, Key Off: Radio Off, Key On: Radio On
Now, after installing an amplifier; i disconnected the radio, and when I connected it back again, if the Radio is On and I turn and remove the key, the radio stays ON. It used to go off with the switch, now I have to manually turn it Off
Did the amplifier happen to connect into the wiring harness of the radio. My bet is that the amplifier connects the power and ignition sense wires together. Some cars like VW or Audi have reversed the power and ignition sense wires in the ISO connectors, so by connecting together it works in all types of cars.
The amp is wired to the battery and the remote to the cigarrete lighter (same as my Sirius). I did try to connect the remote to the ISO connector on the radio, but the amplifier never worked that way. I had to disconnect the radio from the ISO harness, and that made the radio to reset, thus now it won't go off when switching off the car. Everything else works fine, and it 'remembers' on or off according to its last position when starting the car.
www.evilution.co.uk has a wiring diagram for the radio 9 & 10. I guess I'll have to look more into it.
