Cold Air Intake System with K&N Filter - 451 smart fortwo

451 smart fortwo

I have heard from several people from different forums that they would like an intake system for the Smart Car. I've attached a picture of an Intake system that we are offering.

I got it.
Don't try to confuse anyone with the facts when their mind is already made up.

I love my air intake , wouldnt even consider putting that" fishing box " back in my car , even if data might be true , my car runs better with it, thats for sure !

I finished installing my air intake system today and boy does it make a difference. The improved performance is awesome. Definitely worth the money.

Thanks again.

Do you feel the difference in acceleration?

Reply to This

Definitely. All round performance was improved. I live on a mountain and it was a lot easier accelerating up the hill too. I bought it from SmartMadness (their official reseller I believe) and the owner gave me some tips on installing it smoothly.

There are 4 Torx T30 screws you have to take out. You just need a small socket wrench and you should be fine.

Can you post pictures of how it looks and fits?
I have seen similar cold air intakes in many other cars and would like a Smart owner test it and post results.
Thanks

Sure, I'll try and snap some pictures tomorrow.

My only complaint is that the manufacturer should send out DETAILED instructions with the kit as the ones I got were very vague.

at least they were made by americans. try complex instructions made from chinese, translated by some student with a minimal grasp of english!

fortunately it was for furniture and not cars. easy to assemble armoir, 187 pieces, 8 hours... easy to assemble...

LOL, really! Instructions come in any language known to man (and even those no one has ever heard of) and English is thrown in as an after thought.

As Smart 451 is very new to United States we are very behind in developing after market accessories for the 451. Seeing what you have developed I would like to encourage you. I hope comments you read don't discourage you. I guess all the posts I read have questions that you have to explain to make 451 owners understand how it all works.

Scangauge will help answer some questions.
Scangauge will give you temperature at the intake. It reads the Air sensor of the car and reports it.

Source of fresh air to the K&N (picture will help)?

Rain water. How it effects your cold air system?

I am actually more curious as to the location of the mass air sensor, which also house the IAT as well? Anyone knows?

The new air filter "hangs down" sorta. It goes down towards the ground I am not worried about hydro-lock because the filter is 15 inches above ground level. They will be developing a water shield however, to anyone who has or will purchase(d) an air intake system. I was told it would be out in 30-60 days.

They DID dismantle the entire transmission and couldn't find anything. They reported that there was no significant wear on the clutch plate (I think that's what Frank said.) But it's happened again since then. It's CLEARLY a software issue, which I…

the OE mats have a plastic self tapping screw that bores into the carpet and holds on. these come with the carpet floor mats. As far as velcro , the hard side of the velcro sticks to the floor of our smarts.. on my carpets, the passengers side stays…

My dealer installed the carpet minutes before I drove the car home. He used a screw driver to punch two holes in the carpet and then drilled the little plastic pieces in. It was pretty easy.

I carry a plug repair kit. I have found that every flat I've ever had in the past 20 years has been either a screw or nail in the tire. It's usually a good idea to carry a flat head and phillips screw driver with a pair of pliars. Pull out the nail…

Do the 2010 fortwo's have the same problem that the 2008's have or have they figured out a way to solve many of the transmission problems that the 2008's have had? I just bought my 2010 passion on May 19th, 2010.
