Removing the Front Grille

I was thinking of turning my Passion all white and have talked to several paint people. Most agree that you have to use a paint that is flexible because of the plastic. None would tell me about any specail prep of the parts though.

i went the other way, went totally black. might chrome/aluminum the front grills in the future. some stuff on all smarts are black, no matter what... why fight it? go to the DARK SIDE!

Today I tinted the windows. I also went triple black. The darker the better. Soon I will add all black 17" wheels like Kevin's orange beast.

But to answer your question, many people are selling their panels on ebay or doing trades at the dealer. If you want to order them straight out, I was told they cost $900 for the whole car in the color of your choice. Just ask the dealer, mine told me if there is someone who wants to trade, they will do the install for $500 - a bit high for a simple bolt on, though...

Hi,
Did any member swap the radiator grille on their smart car? Decided to go with a chrome one (already got it) and am interested for a ‘walk through’ of the procedure or guiding me to a link in reference to instructions.

very simple remove the front end of the car and the front grille just pushes out from behind

I had to put a new right front fender on my '09 due to a jerk in a parking lot who drove into it claiming it was too small to see on his way into the spot. I bought the chrome kit to install at the same time. I had to take the whole front end off to replace the fender and, lo and behold, thats what you have to do to replace the grille!

There may be easier ways, but I sure couldn't see it...when I had all the front panels off I replaced the grille surround with the chrome one, and it sure looks to me like it would be a bitch to do without pulling it all apart.
