Hey everybody I've been a mechanic for 30 plus years and do not plan to have this car serviced by my dealer which is pretty much my standard M O with everything I buy.
I have read the owners manual from cover to cover and there is no info as to what grade of oil this car uses or any part numbers for oil filter. My assumption is they wish to keep this stuff captive to require return business.
I know the oil is synthetic but what weight? and what amount?
Anyone who has the current specs for this stuff it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Barry

Thanks Greg, it is a safe bet that the dealer has kept the software to do that job captive, it probably can only be done through the OBDII connector with a scan or tech tool with the correct software.

this is the garbage that was told to me when I purchased my Smart car from the Orlando dealership. I was told that I had to have my oil changed at the dealership or I would lose my warranty. I called the main office to find out this was true which it was not I was told I could go anywhere I wanted to to have my oil change as long as I kept receipts of the work. This is the same dealership that told me that I was unable to buy the pot instruments and install them myself. I was told by the same salesperson that they had to be installed by the Smart car dealership.this is just to show you what type of salespeople they have working for them at the Orlando dealership.

I used honda filter. It fits and has bigger size . Yes, it's about 1.5" longer than original one , but I don't plan to go offroad anyway.

Hi
I am trying to get the parts together for my oil change place to be able to change my filter (stick it to the "man" and mercedes - they want $200)

I am going around in circles reading about a crappy paper oil filter and a copper washer that needs replacing etc.
Did this filter fit on standard or did you have to get the conversion kit that lets you put on non standard oil filters?

hi adam, advance auto parts is selling the bosch 3300 as a direct fit for the smart. for my first change, a few months ago, i used a smart filter ($16) at a local oil change shop.

there is a filter screen on the drain plug that is about 1-1/2 inches long, so be careful when removing that.

is there any difference between the bosch 3300 and and smart filter? I want the better product. Other than the filter do i need anything else - i was reading about a copper washer being replaced - is that needed? So far my list consists of

1. Oil filter, either the bosch 330 or the smart filter
2. Mobil 1 0W-40 full syn
3. 24mm or 15/16" wrench for the drain screw

nothing else needs to be replaced. the bosch is less than half the price of the smart filter (mercedes always whacks you in parts). i'd suspect the bosch is equal to if not better than the stock filter. i'd suspect the Purolator Premium Plus is the equal to a stock filter at 25% of the stock price.

i'll be doing my oil changes at 5000 mile intervals, I'll use the Premium Plus in the future and use the savings for a case of beer.
