Hey everybody I've been a mechanic for 30 plus years and do not plan to have this car serviced by my dealer which is pretty much my standard M O with everything I buy.
I have read the owners manual from cover to cover and there is no info as to what grade of oil this car uses or any part numbers for oil filter. My assumption is they wish to keep this stuff captive to require return business.
I know the oil is synthetic but what weight? and what amount?
Anyone who has the current specs for this stuff it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Barry

So a bit bigger, and I would like to add that I have installed a Hitch on my SMART, and the hitch does a great job of protecting the oil filter, motor, and other bits. So, if the bigger filter concerns you, put a hitch on.
I expect that you have this manual, i have looked through it and can't find what you are looking for but will send you the page from my manual for europe where it states different grade oils depending on where you live in europe and how hot it gets.
Summer or winter in italy i have always used castrol SLX 0-30 in all my Smarts ( i have had 4) and change oil and filter at
5000 kms. Roger Italy
Just got back from Smart Genova, asked about oil and they said they use 0W-40 mobil 1 Qty 3.3lt with filter. Also Smart said if I feel better with Castrol SLX 0-30 to tell them when i book the first service and I can bring the Oil with me.
The Bosch 3323 seems to be the number if you want to use the 1.5" longer Honda filter that Leon described using. But I don't know for sure, I havn't seen ether one of them. The longer filter would be better if it has the same fit.
depends on where you live, if you get a bit of snow, like in the northern or upper midwestern states, you might opt for the shorter filter. a nice chunk of frozen snow could do some major damage to low hanging appendages!
Great information, Susan. I was a little worried about getting my Smart through the drifts next winter. It snowed the day I picked mine up and by the next morning the road in front of my driveway was a giant snowdrift. I tried to back into the one t…
I'm very sorry that Max got hurt but I'm also glad you chose to post this. I live in a city where rednecks in SUV's and trucks abound. Combine that with the incessant texting and phone chatter and you've got a bad mix. It's great to know that my (as…
The rear wheels will be delivered to a fellow smartie this weekend. So ...
The 2 fronts are now available as spares ... or ... has anyone considered doing a smart Low-Rider? Replace those wide rear wheels / tires with the skinny fronts and become a…
