I did the Veloce ECU remap. I love it! They are located in Arizona.

OK...

Interesting; but to be more realistic, in my current part of the world, 0 to 60 kph (38 mph) is more relevant. I have a pulse turbo (84 bhp) that is smart rated at 0 to 100 kph / 60 mph at 10.9 seconds. Way ahead of these remaps. There are no roads that I drive that have stop lights with a 100 kph / 60 mph road ahead... So how relevant is 0 to 60 mph?

In my reality, my little smart pulse turbo blows off most V8 super cars at 0 to 60 or 80 kph (say 40 or 50 mph). 0 to 60 mph (or 0 to 100 kph) are abstract measures of performance. Who cares? Not going to do it on any normal road.

Simple technology is that the naturally aspirated smart is not easy to enhance by re-mapping. The turbo is much more open to remapping; and it starts at 84 bhp to begin with.,,,

Please: stop wasting time and money trying to up the NA engine. Spend your efforts lobbying smart America / Penske to get the turbo version... if you don't you will only get the mhd as an option in 2009.

(Sorry: I'm sorta 12 years American out of my life... I hate to see lost causes...)

The turbo won't be here for a while in the USA. There's nothing wrong up putting on performance mods to the NA engine. I'm not going to wait a year+ just to wait for a turbo, sorry.

Sorry but I disagree with you Ian.
The 61 and 71bhp versions can be given a lot more torque to help them pull away as quickly as an 84version.
This makes the car safer AND more fun to drive, surely a win/win situation

OK.

My points were simply: that the 0 to 60 mph benchmark is mostly irrelevant in real world driving situations; and that remaps on the 71 bhp na engine seem to cap at around 80 bhp - the scope for remap is not great compared to the turbo which seems to be capable of remaps to over 100 bhp.

Dyno graphs of a 71 bhp na 451 before and after remap would be useful in evaluating the gains.

The 61 bhp models are not imported to the USA or Australia.

Just a thought, all this talk about remapping on the 71 hp, the 84hp turbo up 100hp and nobody has said anything about breaks, yes stopping................. if there is one thing that I have never been 100% happy with on any of my Smarts and i have had 4 going back to my first in 1999 its the breaks, even on my new turbo. Try stopping from 145 kms on a wet road as if your life depends on it. You should all remember that the smart was never made as a race car and it never will be one.

Ok, here's a wired one. For the past two days, my smart car has been parked right outside the kitchen window, and our cordless phone is inside the kitchen window. Phone rings, gets picked up, and the smart car alarm goes off (and all you can ...

I am sorry but for me if you want AC you should sell your 2008 pure and buy a new Smart with AC. In the long run it would be the most inexpensive way to go.
