Yes i mean brakes. Living out of england for over 30 years i need to go back to school............Have tried all in the past but must admit not yours but i don't think that its to problem, I hink its more to the fact that there is no weight on the front of the car.

BRABUS is on sale in USA. Depending on how strong sales are the turbo will be landing on our shores by end of the year. Remap or not is a personal choice. The extra power dose come in handy as you add a sports exhaust and K&N filter.

Do you still need to do a remap on the current 2009 USA Brabus or have the Brabus tuners allready taken care of this ? Are there any differences between the engine mapping on the regular smart fortwo and the new Brabus smart fortwo ?

Good question. You have to check the owners manual for power output. They might have changed the gear ratio's to accommodate the larger wheels.

Mapping is STOCK 71 AFAIK. No gearbox changes just bling

Smart Brabus (Italy) 72 kW / 98 CV, 999 cm3 3 cilindri benzina Turbo.
Smart Turbo (Italy) 62 KW / 84 CV, 999 cm3 3 cilindri benzina Turbo.

Having driven all three 71cv(hp) 84cv(hp) and the Brabus at 98cv(hp) I went for the Turbo.
I had all the Brabus bits put on mine and still came out with euro 6.728 in my pocket, I don't need the extra hp to do the shopping but did'nt find a great deal of difference, also anybody thinking of buying the Brabus as a main car think again if you don't have a strong back the supension is very hard.

I have been a smart owner since 2005 with the smart mk2 700cc turbo 61bhp,, now i m glad i got read of the oil consuming turbo , and that is the reason i went for the 71bhp non turbo 999cc smart 451.
I believe that the engine will last longer with less ware and maintainance .
Now the discusion is about the above model and if there is a sencible remap for the 451 i own.

The topic is / was remap for the 71 bhp 451 non-turbo....

Personally: I am sceptical of it being worthwhile after following the UK forums where they generally found that the 451 71 bhp non-turbo engine does not get much benefit out of a remap. Generally considered not cost effective... but then they can buy or trade to a turbo instead. It is very hard to get remap claims for the 451 non-turbo quantified by dyno tests... if you send your ECU to someone and did not dyno it before and after... well... you really don't know how good it is do you? (Night time / deserted road drag runs 0 to 60 mph??)

Turbo engines are much more open to remapping by increasing turbo boost pressure.

smarts previous to the current 999cc (US: 1 liter) petrol engines were all turbo.

The current 1 litre engine produces less power per cc than previous generations; it is comparatively under-stressed. It is a different engine; not a rebore of the previous Suprex generations.

Previous smarts had various turbo problems; usually cracked manifolds and oil leaks... I am hoping that my current series turbo does not have any problems. Current engines are by Mitsubishi. A three year, unlimited mileage warranty gives me some confidence... also I read somewhere that Mitsubishi tested the engine for an equivalent of 500,000 km (up to about 40 years normal driving ?)

The current "real" BRABUS is a turbo rated at 98 bhp. It must be fed RON 98 fuel to be happy. It is generally not available outside select parts of Europe. The USA BRABUS first release is the non-turbo 71 bhp naturally aspirated engine. USA does not yet get the 84 bhp turbo; or any other turbos The 71 bhp na engine will be mhd standard or mhd option for the coming year in most of the world. Turbos are not suited to mhd due to turbo cool down requirements (turn turbos off when too hot and the mainfold may crack and the oil supply dries out... ala your previous cars.)

Thanks for the advice , i think i will leave the ECU as it is at the moment and some time in the future i will consider upgrading it .
