Hi, I have a 2008 Smart Passion 451. Vin #WMEEJ31X48K162313
It has 13500 miles, and is 2 1/2 years old. I love my Smart & enjoy using it all the time!
I tell everyone how great it is. But now I am loosing my mind.
It has been back to the dealer about 6 times, towed in too. Now it is out of Warrantee with the same unsolved problem.
It started out: If you touch the emergency brake handle before starting the car you will hear a click in the dash board & the transmission display shows 3 lines of dashes (- - -) instead of 'P,R, N,or D". The car will not start.
I then learned about "resetting the transmission" by pushing in the brake peddle for 60 seconds.
Things have gotten worse. The battery now dies every day (it's been cold in New York).
I discovered here is a .6 amp drain on the battery with everything off (key out).
If you even just sit in the car the relay clicks & the drain starts. Recently a Smart pulled along side & asked if I had the "emergency brake switch problem"???
I lifted the rear mat & disconnected the lugs form the brake handle switch, but the relay still clicks if you push on the floor.
Now I just read about the "angle sensor" problem, but thats suposed to be up front in the car?
I'm going to pull the seats out to check for a short under the carpet by the console - but don't have a large "Torx" socket yet.
I would take it to the dealer but they are clueless and at $95.00/ hour I don't trust them that far.
Any Ideas? Thank you very much T. H.
