451 smart fortwo

I've heard that people do a lot of modifications and upgrades to their smart to make it more "sporty". What's the max speed of a factory smart (after removing the governor if one exists)? Does anyone know what are the typical top speeds after the sport mods?

[Edit: the site says that "smart" is properly spelled with all lower case, so I made the change in my post accordingly.]

Gas mileage doesnt alter that much as you dont need to floor the throttle every where to keep the speed up.

Once the car has been run in PROPERLY then the gas mileage will go to approx 55 to the UK gallon.

I have just under 3000mls on my smart now , and my latest mpg is 54.2 and it will get better in the warmer weather. Upto now I have not been very impressed with the consumption as it was not what they had stated, and also reading the other forums people are also not getting the mpg. As the miles increase I will post some more.

When i was first looking into the 451, i said to myself that "it would be nice to have a smart with around 120HP". I would think that with this many interested buyers in the US, it's only a matter of time before aftermarket tuners start making performance mods for it. BigPerformace, where are you located??

Kinda off topic, but how do you measure the HP after you make some mods?

Actually, I am more interested in finding out what the HP on my Protege is like after all these years of daily abuse :O)

you'd probably have to go to a shop with a dynometer, it'll measure the HP at the wheels. i'm gonna put a K&N air filter in mine, and later maybe a new exhaust system. i'm not insane, i'll keep it at 70mph or below, i won't mess with the limiter or the ESP or ABS systems. i keep my 190E at 80mph or below, it's capable of much more (when going over 100mph, add 4PSI to the tires!)

the smart is ok on expressways in stock form (it accellerates similarly to my 190E, much faster than my old metro) if you can disable the limiter, you can break 120mph in stock form (who wants to go 120 in a plastic car with a 6ft wheelbase?!?!?!?!) the wheelbase of my "baby benz" 190E is 105 inches, the length of a smart is 106 inches!

My car is a 71ps Pulse, no turbo, not Brabus. The remap gave me approximately 85ps and took off the limiter. 113mph by GPS downhill on a German motorway. Fuel economy does not seem altered in normal driving.

Wont get 85ps.
More than likely to be 78.

I think so to, cause 14PS more, from an engine without turbo is impossible.

some tuners give big figures .... and the results didn't match to what they promises ...

There are a couple of tabs; one each side of the grill - swing them out and the panel pulls out. See: http://www.evilution.co.uk/index.php?id=303 Didn't your smart come with an owners' manual? It dwells in a recess under the passenger seat (too bi…

Hi, I noticed today that there is water dripping from the back of my car. It is a translucent blue colour so I imagine it must be coolant although I was always under the impressionthat the smarts were air cooled as I have never been able to find a…

I think they replaced the clutch plate and it was okay for a few weeks, now I am experiencing the same problem again. Not everytime I try to go into reverse, but often.
