Cold Air Intake System with K&N Filter - 451 smart fortwo

451 smart fortwo

I have heard from several people from different forums that they would like an intake system for the Smart Car. I've attached a picture of an Intake system that we are offering.

is it available without the actual filter? i am looking for a simple way to add a "mild" nitrous shot using the ZEX™ Ejector Air Amplifier, shown here: http://www.modernparts.com/userdocs/products/ZEX/82143&8.jpg seems like the best option

Not a problem. email me at smartcar.performance@gmail.com I can work out a good price for you without the filter.

Are you planning on using aluminum or CF tubing in the future? What is the weight savings or gain by switching to your SS intake?

Reply to This

We may offer an aluminum version in the future. Right now, the strength, cost is really driving us to use Stainless Steel. As far as a savings in weight, there is a little bit but not a ton. The old plastic air filter, baffler weighs maybe 6 lbs. Our system only weighs less than 4 lbs. The performance and reaction time is really the advantage and yes it definitely looks better than the stock air filter.

Just a quote from one of our customers:

"I just did my battery of tests today and I’ve pretty well verified what your dyno results showed. In fact, its even better.... using my G-Tech Pro RR Accelerometer, I see peak HP gains of 11.3% and peak Torque gains of 9.8%. 0-60 times were shaved by 1.4 seconds as well."

Steven Morehouse, Canada

He was able to get an 8 HP gain exactly like we did on our Dyno test.

Funny, this system has been tested and actually INCREASES air intake temp by about 30%...sorta like a reverse turbo.

I'm not sure where you are getting 30% increase. The comment was about HP gains and Torque gains. Here are more data that was done during testing:

"1/4 mile times: 19.801s @ 69.30 MPH (stock) vs 19.226s @ 74.97 MPH (modded)"

Does the stainless conduct more heat than the stock plastic intake thus loosing power once the car has been running for awhile?

Just checking, I looked at your intake the bends seem to help air flow and seems to be more of a CAI setup but not sure from the pictures!

When we did our Dyno test it was well over 100 deg outside. The place we went to was about 40 minutes away. So at the time that we did our Dyno test the car was very warm. And you know that in 100 degree weather, it takes forever for the car to cool down. We did the modified intake with the stainless steel first. Then, we did the stock intake. So even with those conditions, we were still able to get an 8 HP gain. So the answer to your question is: No, you don't lose power after running for awhile. I know there are companies out there who try to claim that, but the truth is they have not personally tried my product. So that is a false statement.

Most my customers are very impressed overall with the performance. They notice the difference right away.

They DID dismantle the entire transmission and couldn't find anything. They reported that there was no significant wear on the clutch plate (I think that's what Frank said.) But it's happened again since then. It's CLEARLY a software issue, which I…

My dealer installed the carpet minutes before I drove the car home. He used a screw driver to punch two holes in the carpet and then drilled the little plastic pieces in. It was pretty easy.

I carry a plug repair kit. I have found that every flat I've ever had in the past 20 years has been either a screw or nail in the tire. It's usually a good idea to carry a flat head and phillips screw driver with a pair of pliars. Pull out the nail…

Do the 2010 fortwo's have the same problem that the 2008's have or have they figured out a way to solve many of the transmission problems that the 2008's have had? I just bought my 2010 passion on May 19th, 2010.
