My car is a passion coupe turbo 2009. I'm planning to install a subwoofer, and have gone through the forums but haven't found much info. It comes with the radio 9, with aux port. I already installed Sirius radio, placing the antenna under the hood and the radio inside the glove compartment, and using an additional hidden lighter socket, under the dashboard connected to the stock lighter to give it power. During the installation process I found a cable that seems to be the connection for a subwoofer, under tha dashoboard on the passenger's side. Has anyone connected a subwoofer here? I looked for a pre-wired installation under the passenger seat but found nothing. I probably will need a power amp as well.
BTW, my car has no PRND setup but instead just a R N wit an AUTO button on the side. I guess this configuration applies for my country.

Did you have a MP3 cable in the glove box?

Yes, it comes with the AUX input, and plays mp3 discs as well. Configurations for our market are different from US cars. I guess we get European version here. Mine is a passion turbo, and it includes fog lights, clock and tachometer, plus the gear configuration found in Europe. I think wheels are different as well, I'll post pics later. MHD are getting in by Octeober, but just for the non turbo models, which I think will be here by December. I will be checking the voltage and impedance later on, to see if that cable is really for a speaker.

Yes it will be interesting to see pictures..
I changed the original sound system with a Kenwood unit. It has DVD, Navigation and all the media you can hook to it. 7 speakers and an amplifier that sits under the passenger seat. Blue tooth cell phone hookup makes it easier to make calls and answer calls.

Here are some pics of my Sirius installed. No cables are visible except for the 3.5 mm. stereo cable. I'm planning on getting a flat head stereo cable so it won't notice that much. I'd rather keep stock unit so it looks original.

you sort of "went off the farm" with that nice unit, doesn't look stock at all. but it's a nice unit.
KUDO's!

i originally installed a pioneer unit last spring, but got a "radio 10" new on ebay last month, so i have a smart 6 disc changer, i'm happy, and didn't pay $450 that smart wanted for it (got it for under $100 with S&H)

How did you get the antenna wire through?

Reply to This

At first I thought I would make a hole and pass it through the cockpit on the passenger's side, close to where the tire kit is, but then I realized it was a little bit complicated, so I went to the side panel, to the passenger's door. I separated the rubber from the door, passed tha cable in a very neat and clean way, you can hardly notice. I then drilled a hole on the back of the glove compartment for the dc plug and the antenna plug, and voila!

You did a great job on the install in the glove box. Came out clean. I like the antenna where you placed it.

Not sure about the relative locations.... I'm in Australia. RHD as the UK. Your pic is Euro LHD.

The Aussie pulse with "smart sound system" includes a subwoofer under the drivers seat (passenger seat in your case)... So don't know if they put the unit under the same seat (right hand one) regardless of the driver seat location.
Anyways the smart original unit can be seen on:

Perhaps you have found the wiring connection for it?

Just checked my car and it has a subwoofer under the driver's seat (I just kept looking under the passenger seat and couldn't find a thing). So they always put the sub under the driver's seat. To be honest, I don't feel too much bass coming out from it. I already upgraded the door speakers with JBL GTO 637 (a whole lotta difference) and kept the OEM grills, and I'll be putting a subwoofer attached to a class D amp under the dashboard on the passenger's side, that way the car looks like stock. There's plenty of room in there and I already have fitting ideas. I'll post some pics as soon as I get it done.

I left the ignition on to tow my Smart Car a short way on a car dolly. Do not do this with the windows up. The doors automatically lock! It took me two hours to figure out how to get in without damabing the car.

I have another question, how does the re tune effect fuel efficiency? I bought my smart with the belief that fuel prices would go up and for my daily commute back and fourth to the office there is no need for me to drive my 3.0L V6 Maxima when I am…

Herb, good comments and questions. You point about re-assuring prospective customers is well taken, thank you! It is not well known here in the United States, but in the EU,file theft is a huge issue for tuners. This is why the files are all locked…
