Bad news on this, MBX. I asked the dealer about a local install. That was one of the items that they indicated could not be just snapped on - like the pods, cargo stuff, and other options. I, too would like to use the blank switches, but, as you see, they don't make it easy... You did a great job on the stereo workaround, so let us all know if you find a way to employ these switches for fog lights, country horns, etc.

i found a supplier that offers a stainless "grill group" that covers all front cell areas with stainless steel, it's a little over $250, but on a total black smart would look neat.

i'll just call the parts department at mercedes and ask for a replacement switch, i had to replace the sunroof switch on an '86 190E last year. if they don't have a replacement "smart" switch, they can order it.

my new mod will be cool. i'll just let it sit on the seat next to me until i get the switch and can make a permanent install, nice thing about smarts is they're all plastic! no steel to block the signals!

Hey you two take it outside!!!

Back to the fog lights. If you find lights that fit they can be wired in the usual way.

If you buy the smart option kit last I heard ( from the portland dealer) they are easy to install and wire but they won't work. Usual problem with software. The factory switch tells the light controller to turn on the fog lights. After the fog light install the controller has to be accessed with the factory scan tool and the fog light option turned on. The dealer software for unknown reasons could not do this. This problem may be fixed by now. But if you buy the kit from smart you will have to visit a dealer after you install it to make it work.

I had heard something like that also, so figured if I didn't order it up front, too bad. The existing headlights are great anyway, and probably good in fog too. It WAS very interesting to see how to use the buttons, though.

The dealer at Edison, NJ is first one to install smart fog lights for me. The car came without fog lights. My car was the first one they tried it and worked perfectly. I added them and they installed it for me. Check with you local smart center they should able to the same for you.
