I just got my ScanGuage and I find the sticky tape doesn't want to stay stuck to the material covering the dash. I'm trying to put it under the dash about in the middle. Suggestions?
No effects so far. All readings are good and accurate. Just don't stick an Ipod too close. That might cause problems. I have the Ipod mounted on top so it's good to go.
I'm thinking of hot gluing a long piece of the fuzzy velcro to the area about 5 inches up from the lighter plug. centered below the hazard buttons. there the co-pilot can also read the information the scan... um Scans! Also is you remove the scanner, there are many things that can replace it there in that spot. My serius radio comes to mind. multifunction is the key to any mod that is permanent or semi-permanent.
You can also use the same method to mount the Scangauge in the top of the larger cubby hole next to the speedo. The air vent above it is just clipped in with two clips at the front and easily lifts off giving access to the inside of the dash to insert the magnets.
Guy on eBay has an aluminum bracket for $9.95 that mounts with screws - where ever you'd like it. Search eBay for "Smart bracket" and it should pop up if he's got some. Looks pretty solid, too.
i considered that mount, but i'd have to take my eyes off the road. i preferred something closer to "line of sight". looking below the radio is inconvenient, i was originally going to install the SG below the radio on the dash, until i installed the "radio 10" in my smart.
it's more of a safety consideration, to keep it where you can see it and traffic at the same time. hate to lose a smart car for an extra MPG.
