I did not notice at first, but the mat is on the outside of the engine cover. When I first looked at it I thought it was sitting on top of the engine. Good job. Great Idea. I want one. But first I got to get a car. When I get my car, how do I get one ?
Do you think it would lower cabin noise in a cabrio? My guess is that most of the noise comes in from the soft top though...

Oh my... does it help with cabin noise??? I talk to a lot of drivers in their smarts everyday as they call the shop. Yesterday, I was talking to SATO and I said "where are you?" and he commented that he was in his car. No way, it's so quiet! Oh yeah, I have the dynamat that's why. So then we had a lengthy convo about Dynamat and I will tell you if you are on mobile in your smart I noticed a HUGE difference. There was no ambient background, static, hard rubber on cement noise. You know the noise. So I want this in my smart. Thanks so much SATO for posting the picts, and guess what? I have the rim sizes with tire sizes and another driver confirmed that the back tire size is the same as stock for the Genius! We took picts last night so I'll send those to you today :) Sorry for the late call, I looked at the clock and realized I was calling you at 940. At least you guys know we answer the phones late if you live on the East Coast.
We are so thankful to you the community, you simply rock... you're the best.
It lower resonance frequencies of the engine "lid" that goes quite a ways in reducing interior "noise". I did this quite a few months ago on my smarty and so far 5 club members have asked me to do their engine lids as well. They all within a few minutes of driving off call me on their cell phone elated of the difference.
The lid is not part of any "cooling mechanism" for the engine compartment, if anything the Dynamat helps with the engines heat by retarding its pass through, retaining some and reflecting some with the aluminum foil layer. The material under the very heavy gauge alum. is a butyl rubber membrane with an adhesive back to stick to the metal surface you are wanting to dampen. I have used their older stuff for years in high end audio installs in cars.
