Hey everybody I've been a mechanic for 30 plus years and do not plan to have this car serviced by my dealer which is pretty much my standard M O with everything I buy.
I have read the owners manual from cover to cover and there is no info as to what grade of oil this car uses or any part numbers for oil filter. My assumption is they wish to keep this stuff captive to require return business.
I know the oil is synthetic but what weight? and what amount?
Anyone who has the current specs for this stuff it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Barry
3.5 quarts, 0W-40 mobil 1 synthetic euro-spec. if you poke around the internet, you can find filters for half of what MB charges. ($13 for something the size of a small ash tray is rediculous!)
Awsome!! thanks so much for that info, if you get a line on the official service manual(s) for the car that would be too cool as well.
Thanks again Barry
there's supposed to be a little screen that resides in the drain plug. it's supposed to be near the oil pick-up. i guess you have to be careful with that. i'm not sure if it's to be replaced or just retained (mercedes is secretive with their stuff, i had a 190E for a year, love the car, hate the maker) i'll be doing my first oil change in 500 miles (at 5000 miles, smart recommends 10,000 miles, but smart won't pay my repair bills after 2 years/24,000 miles)
Amen to that, the number for the mileage is the same one I picked as well for the exact same reasons. Thanks for the heads up on the screen , I remember in the early VW days the screen at the drain plug location was the filter!!
I peeked at the oil filter and the filter on my Generac generator is bigger although the engine displacement is 1 liter on both.

I changed my oil this past wekend. I have never had a car with such easy access. I did not even had to jack it. There is a filter attached to the drain bolt as well as a washer. I used 0W-40 Mobil 1 Synthetic and the Bosch oil filter (Its about a 1/2 inch taller than stock). My only problem is I cant get the maintenance indicator to clear. Anybody know how?

I changed my oil last weekend, but can't get the maintenance indicator to clear. Anybody know how? My car took almost 4 quarts of 0W-40 Mobil 1 synthetic and a Bosch oil filter.
That's awesome. Thanks, SATO! Hope all is well with you. Things are fine here in Vero Beach. 27,000 miles on my little smart and still lovin' it. Heading to Tampa on Saturday for a meeting. Looking forward to a high mpg trip across the state. :-)
Well Ladies and Germs, Our friend and perfectionist metal working Genius has taken my idea and perfected it. He has come out with a great looking AND functioning rear view mirror that just clips onto the existing mirror puck when you remove the OE o…
